Poor frame rates
« on: August 22, 2004, 10:52:38 AM »
Several squaddies and myself have experienced poor frame rates since we switched to the OzKansas map.

Some frame rates have been cut in half.

Anyone else?

Mine were a lot worse (2/3 to 1/2 normal) when I first ran patch 9 on OzKansas, but I am not sure if it is the patch, the map, or something else running on the PC.  I am investigating.

OK, it definately is something new.  In big, low-alt furballs, my frame rate drops into the 20s (half what is was).  Only deficiency in my system (see below) is perhaps RAM, but in any case something has changed with either Patch 9 or OzKansas.  Any ideas HTC?

I hoped that the low frame rate wasnt just my machine.I never had a great FR ,low alt over land, but now has slipped from 40ish to high teens.

After further investigation, it is a consistent problem for me now.  My PC is reasonably powerful (except for perhaps RAM), so I don't think I should be seeing this issue.  See edit to my original post.

Any ideas HTC?

deacon your computer should be getting around 60-70 fps.  Oz is infamous for horrible fps, even in AH1.  just ot many objects on that map.

Last night I flew offline using the default map (not OzKansas).  Got the same horrible fram rates, so the problem is not the OzKansas map.  If I recall correctly, I experienced the halved frame rate with patch 9, which doesn't make sense, given its stated scope.  Nevertheless, this is what I (and a few others in this post) see.

Offline, with the default map, and the 3 sliders all the way to left, I occasionally saw frame rate below 25.  HTC, can you comment on this???  Is it my system RAM?

The OzKansas is a framerate hog that should be put down. Even with a new computer the FR is drastically lower than on other maps.

only time i have bad framerates is when i get near more then 2 other players. especially when on someones six or near buffs or a CV. in these cases i flirt with a 5 to 10 FR briefly then it straightens out some to around 15 to 20. when over furball i get mid 20s at ALT. when i drop below 5k for instance they go to hell again. especially if there are alot of GVs on the ground. and turning on ground vis on furball isle....forget it lol

i have noticed a big hit in FR on OZkansas

usually ~35 FPS down to 20 with lots of players / smoke.

on this map I have occasional drops down to 8 FPS. Seems like it depends on the geographical area which I'm in (less on the number of players).

Guys, I thought the point of this thread is RECENT CHANGE to frame rates, with intent to solicit comment from HTC as to whether recent patches/terrain could be responsible.

It dilutes the intent of the post to comment on poor frame rates due to obvious reasons such as older equipment, etc.
