I've noticed a significant decrease in my ability to hit anything over the last few updates. Others have started threads on the same topic.

I believe the increase in pilot quality is a factor, and possibly the updates as well..BUT..does your connection matter more as the game becomes more popular. I'm running an excelent FPS at hi res so that shouldnt be an issue. With the bubble in AW I felt that lag was less of an issue. Here I'm ghosting rounds right thru folks at times.

What is the optimal type of connection for AH and how much difference in gunnery will it have. i'm currently connecting via earthlink on a 56k modem..but average connect is 28,800 to 33,600.

Also how do I best test my coonnect for lag etc..not sure how to check lag here..in AW it's a built in command like FPS here.

I have 33.6k modem and usually 260-330ms pings.. lag isnt much of an issue to kill

How to check pings?
Well.. open msdos prompt, then type in following line: ping -t beta.hitechcreations.com
Then interrupt pinging with ctrl-c after a few...

Humble,

Connect speed and/or lag should have no effect on your ability to score hits other than the difficulty in hitting a warpy target. I'll bet you a double cheese burger with fries and cold drink that hits are calculated locally.

Now connect/lag could effect how long it takes your target to recognize that he's been killed.

This effect is why when you look in your rearview the enemy doesn't look like he has sufficient lead but you still get ping packets. In his world view, he has pulled sufficient lead and is pinging the crap outa ya. Since hits are calculated locally, his world view decides when you are getting hit.

I can't proved that AH works like this, but I'd be amazed if it didn't.

I seldom even try to fly during primetime anymore. You never know from one sorti to the next if your gonna get the rubber bullits. If you wait until after 10 pm this problem is greatly reduced.

AKWabbit - I see this often. Setting up for a close pass to deny turning room, making what looks like a great lead turn, his nose is nowhere near pointing at you, tracers tha look like they miss, then ... ping, ping, ping, ping .. you are dead. This not looking the same makes net play hard at times and makes setup for lead turns very difficult. Find myself going for HO rather than making what "looks" like a great merge and to be blasted to bits.

Bullets hit's can not be droped do to connection speed or lossed packets.
If the hits are not registering, (and I have tested the crap out of this so im not sure it is happing) it's some other problem that needs to be found.

But my guess is that the person you are shooting has taken damage but nothing you could see visualy. Next time you think you have rubber bullets, ask the person you just shot what he heard for hits and damage. If there is a problem this will help me find it.

Thanx for the ping info fishu...TT I've had problems with rubber bullets but also recognize my gunnery may be inferior to others. I'm used to scoring kills at 300-400 on fairly tough deflection shots..during the 3.x patches I didnt seem to have any problems. HO's were also not an issue, usually if I accepted them I'd get a reasonable kill rate and mutual deaths were not uncommon. My biggest shortcomings were the higher overall caliber of pilots, learning the FM (much tougher than AW) and dealing with trim issues. I'm at a point now where I'm thinking bout the fight stead of worrying more about flying the plane. On many occasions i'm just out smarted, out flown or out gunned..but..often i'm working correctly converting my e to angles for that solid shot and watching bogie fly right thru.

After reading posts here I think I need to focus on working for the shot at 150. I'm just geared to 3+ yrs of AW and 300 is prime kill zone, you dont get any gain by closing and you complicate the gunnery solution a bit.

My post was different than TT's. I was referring to apparent differences in one players view as compared to another. But ... since you ask I have noticed several (numerous) cases of multiple pings (on me) especially long range d600+ but sometimes closer (probably looks closer to them) shots from dead level six that produce no damage to me (besides the heart attack). Have also seen it from the other view. Dead level six d400 - nice one second burst - hits sprites all over him (he confirms pings) - no damage. He breaks, I yo-yo get deflection shot now d500 - stread him like paper. Just my observation.

Thanx for the info HT, what about lag, my feel is that at the range I'm shooting at (usually 250-350) there may be just enough displacement that I'm guessing on how far ahead of my FE image the bogie is. I'm not a hoser so i'm not firing long bursts (especially in 20mm equipped rides) I usually "tap" the trigger and try for 3-4 quick little bursts or use mg in the 205 and use cannon once I see flash.

Net lag has nothing to do with gunnery with the exception on how soon you would see the damage.

Also make note on what type of plane you are shooting.
Somthing like this could also just be a typo in one of the plane hardness. Btw I know the feel of seen lots of hits and not seeing any damage done, usaly I get it when flying the 50 cal planes.
What changes for me from day to day is how steady I am on my shooting. If im jittery on the shot it tends to spread the hits over the whole plane and components don't brake.

I fly the spit a lot and the N1k and I am talking about being on the receiving end. Many pings on me - check damage - phew - no damage. Find con - dead six. Break. Ping, ping - explode. In bomber (either) bandit on my six - multiple pings - no or little damage to me. I hose him with tail stinger - he go down. Bandit coming in for defelction shot - 2 or 3 pings lose engine or wing, especially from top or bottom. It just appears that shots from dead six do little or no damage (even tho - getting pings as shootee or getting hit sprites as shooter). I don't know if it is a range thing or a deflection thing, I just know sometimes I get the hell pinged out of me and I am not damaged and other times one ping - DEAD. It seems that more often than not many pings = no damage come from six o'clock while one or 2 ping = dead come from high deflection shots.

Got into it with kirin. He in a 109, me in a 109. He out flew me. He sprayed me at least 5 times maby more. It got so rediculeus I slowed down just to see if i could be killed. He took off my wing finely. He said that he had cannon. and that he was fireing frome 200 to 300 yards. He said he had film. I hope he posts it. BTW I had no warping or beacons at this time.

As far as jittery is concerned, I have compleatly covered a cons wing with sprites, at sixty yards and the guy flew away.

More people have begun to complain about this. But not enough for me to think that it is a general problem. I think it must be something in my system. But I dont know enough about computers to figure it out.
