The one in the background center left is a Mig-21.

I think its a MiG-27, the 23 would have a rounder nose.  Hard to tell though.

Where was the picture taken? Seems a pity to leave an WWII era aircraft out in the open. MiG-23's come in fighter and attack (BN) versions with blunt, MiG-27 style noses, 'Utkanoz', Russian for 'Duck nose'. MiG-27 is a MiG-23 with simplified intakes/afterburner, I believe

Disclaimer, this is from an old book, written in the last of the cold war, so don't blame me for errors :D

Furthermore, is that a Mig-21? Looks more like a Sukhoi Su-7 or derivative (Su-17/Su-22) to me.

Ref the MiG, it's surely a MiG-23 with it's intakes, either a standard MiG-23 or droop nosed MiG-23BN.

Hehe,

My bad.

I thought it was a Nakajima 90-11 in German service.

The Sukhoi had a slightly longer nose than the Mig-21 if I am not mistaken.

Yep it is I was wrong. The Mig-21 had a different canopy style as well as the rounded part flowing off the canopy in the rear of the cockpit area. That section on the Mig tapered down to the fuselage unlike the Sukhoi.

Very similar designs though and I would imagine that they would be hard to distinguish until you saw the wings.
