I think this might be one that is doable.  I'd sure like to see your attempt at it considering your  P47s are the best I've seen.  Wish I had the patience and the ability you have to do those :)

62nd FS, 56th FG P47D-22
"Stalag Luft III-I Wanted Wings"
Pilot Lt. Albert Knafelz
Serial number 42-26298
Squadron Codes LM-A

Partial D-Day stripes, Yellow rudder, two tone camo on top, red nose ring etc.

Not sure how to replicate the nose art.

There is a decal sheet out there with the markings:

images of the plane in profile and a close up of the nose art.

Did my best to replicate the nose art and did a quick profile of the P47 with the camo.  I forgot the underwing D-Day stripes, but I figure you've got that part down and then some :)

nopoop's done a wonderful camo D25 bubble top Jug.  I was hoping for a razorback to go with it as I think it would look great to have a mixed formation of Jug types flying together.  So far this is the best I can come up with on a razorback Jug in that same sort of camo :)

Just a bit more info on "I Wanted Wings".  I found this image showing it from the back.  Not a great scan because it was a tiny picture in the book, but you can see the camo on the right wing and how they had oversprayed the D-Day stripes on top with Olive Drab and not camoflaged it with the gray again.

OK so I had a day off and felt like playing detective :)

Fantastic Guppy, I got'um.

I'll put this one next up after this one is completed.

Thanks !!

( Now we have to get HT to change the film "coad" to show custom skins. )

Think of the movies that could be made with a gaggle of like planes all painted different

Absolutely what I'd be hoping for.  I keep thinking about the mixed formations of either 51Bs and Ds as well as the Razorback Jugs and Bubble tops.

I think having the ability to have a mix of skins, in particular of the same Fighter Squadron or Group would really add to the immersion in the game.

Considering the variety of 56th FG P47 paint schemes that would make for quite the sight.

Looking forward to this one to go with the Schilling D-25 :)

Color shot from "Air Command" showing the nose art of "I Wanted Wings"

Not sure what the entire phrase is below the canopy and it doesn't show up in other photos so no clue if this is before the gray was sprayed on or later then the previous photos.

The lack of invasion stripes visible makes me think this was previous to the other photos and the name was painted over with the gray.

Nopoop,
Here's the rendition I have from my 56th Fighter group book:

Notice how the phrase isn't included, and I can't make out any phrase with the picture references I have. Will have to research this one some more....
