Spit MKIII for Spit9?
« on: August 23, 2004, 04:47:06 PM »
Will HTC allow a Spit8 skin on a Spit9 or Spit5?  I know there have been other exceptions, but I want to make sure before I begin a lot of work.

As long as it's a historic skin, sure. But I tire of all these spit/hurc skins that are ALL identical save for the numbers on the tail code. Let's spice up the RAF planes, people! Make 'em interesting!

My current project, as of a few minutes ago :D

Not gonna be too hard considering the Panel Line layout is very similar to the spit5, which I have a template for.

United , check the current skins , a "grey nurse" has been done already by Dsrtrat, it came through in the recent batch.

DOH! Thank ya a bunch redd!  Glad it was caught before I went too far with it.  Think I may try another aircraft from that squadron since I have the camo and some of the shark teeth done.

My bad, sounded like you'd just change some minor details and use the same skin, is all. Sorry.

Guess I'll put this on hold United.

Interesting my pics show black/white squadron code.

Skuzzy will permit Spit 7/8 skins on Spit 9 providing they are different. i.e. not a standard grey/green etc with diff letter codes.

I had put this on hold as it is a Spit 7, but Skuzzy said would accept as it is 'different'. Scratch that, just realised Spit 6 and 7 had pointy wings, but you should get the idea

Don't give up on the Spit VII Kev.  In the Summer of 44 they were flying them with standard wings, and were actually flying ground attack in them on occasion.

For the time frame of that skin, the regular wingtips would be accurate.

No underwing roundels, and the top of the wing and fuselage roundels would be slightly smaller.

Thanks Guppy didn't realise that, I had already begun again with this Spit 9. (still have other layer for Spit 7 NX-O)

Intercepted a lone Ju88 at 40,000ft Sep 12 1942.
I think on both the wing roundels are correct size (they are smaller). Will check fuselage roundel though, thanks.

Here ya go Kev.

From Osprey's "Late Marque Spitfire Aces"

Peter Brother's Spitfire VII with normal span wings etc.

I'm gonna shamelessly name drop too in regards to the pilot of the Spit IX skin you did above.  His name is Emanual Galitzine and I had the pleasure of corresponding with and then meeting him back in 1986 while researching the Spit XII.  He claimed a 190 in a Spit XII in September of 43.  It was a Ju86R he intercepted in the modified Spit IX in September 42.  He later flew Spit IXs in the Med with 92 Squadron after finishing his tour with 41 Squadron and Spit XIIs.

Yup.
Of course you mean Prince Emanual Galitzine :)
Wondering if the Mk VII skin would be more appropriate on a Spit V, given the assymetrical radiators on lower wings.
