Port Number?
« on: August 23, 2004, 06:47:20 PM »
Hi, I automatically downloaded XP Service Pack 2 and it allows me to work on my firewall.

Now I think it could be my campus (I'm here at Eastern Illinois University) putting up a firewall here to prevent online gaming, but considering that p2p services like Blubster and Morpheus (MP3 download services) are working, I am curious is if theres a manual port I can put in to allow my firewall protection to let me connect to it?

To be quite honest, if this doesn't work, then I am going to have to cancel my account as I don't want to pay for 4 months of service that I can't use.

:(

Aces High II uses a random subset of ports in the range of 2000-5000, inclusive.

When you get online in Aces High II, the WinXP firewall will ask you, if you want to permit the program to contact outside. Simply answer this with "yes".
The other way is to add AH to the "exceptions" (sorry, I have a non-english OS, so I don't know what MS uses in english version) in the firewall settings. You just need to add the aceshigh.exe. That is enough. :)

Trying it tonight after my classes. Hopefully it will work and hopefully the school will unblock it or else I'd have to quit :(

Well, still no go, I'm going to have to talk to the school's admin to see whats up but I'm going to have to cancel my subscription if its going to be a permanent firwall on online games.

Can't even play poker online!

Did it work before you installed SP2?

It worked when I first moved in here at school on Tuesday the 17th. The rest of the campus moved in 19-22nd and around that time it didn't work.

I doubt it could have been SP2 considering I know other people (off campus) that can play online have it as well. I think it is my school's firewall as they have problems with viruses. Usually sometimes they just limit outbound bandwidth (creating horrible pings upwards in the k's). I will try and contact the school's admin but for the meantime RTSigma no longer flies the skies of AH2......
