What happened to frame rates?
« on: August 24, 2004, 07:34:43 AM »
Since the release of patch 8 & 9 my FR has dropped from 70-ish to mid 30's. I've heard a number of players mention the same thing. What's up with that?

I'm running a Radeon 9800 Pro 128 meg card on a P4 1.9 Ghz chipset with 512 ram. Skuzzy's hinted that my chipset's on the low end of what the Radeon card should have, horsepower wise.

Can anyone suggest AH vid prefs or Radeon 3D/OpenGL tweaks that can get me my FR back?

Thanks ~ DmdMax

in part it's due the OZKansas itself.
Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.

DMax I'm runing almost the exact same system.

P4 1.8 ghz
512 mg ram
Radeon 9800 Pro 128 mg

I have been having the same issues.. But I've been having issues since AHII started.  It's odd because sometimes it runs really well and other times. well... not so much...

I've been told there are some sound settings that could affect fps but I have yet to find them... I think I may try and overclock my PC and see what happens.

Puff under your RUN menu, type in dxdiag...goto the sound tab and set your acceleration slider to the 3/4 position.  You can also try lowering all sound volume within the game, which I'm told reduces tracer burst pauses.

I'm also told that an integrated sound card (which I have) should be replaced with a stand alone card like SB Live5.x

Keep me posted...I'll do the same :)

An "onboard" soundcard will really bottleneck your system...with one exception...the new Nvidia chipset onboard sound is supposedly faster than a stand alone...basically is the "X-box" chip put on a PC MB.

I cant say. at least for me this is true.

I as much as anyone used to moan and groan about  FR's

Eventually got it all straightened out And other then on some rare occasions havent had a problem since
for me OZKansas runs as smooth as any other map.

Maxy...

Can't say. My has been consistant reguardless of patches or terrain. My guess would be a hardware specific problem.

Very noticeable frame rate hit here also, may be the current map, may be the last patches, may be the current automatic download of new textures for P51s ...

My frames have also gone lower all the time, and I´m running a fast rig!

XP2100+ OCd to 2400Mhz (faster than XP3000+), 1 gig memory and 9800Pro 128mb.

1280x1024 and 2xAA , 2xAF, and frames go near the ground around 20FPS... when the trees disappear, all will go to max 60 frames (TFT here...)

Trees and ground strucktures make my computer to kneel...

Dunno why because IL2 runs flawlessly with full settings and 10x better graphics..

MB soundchip in use here, Nforce2´s own MCCP-T

Oz Runs horribly on some systems cause you have like 20 cv groups on that map.  a CV group alone causes a fps hit, but alot on a map does more.

FR is generally lower for me and it varies. It's all still playable though. My machine is getting old.

Turn off the FR counter guys!:D

Down from about 70fps to the low 20s here with Patch 10. I suspect the automatic downloading of skins has something to do with it.

It's the map.  I can go and fly the BoB, and have steady FPS, but on Oz it's horrible.  In a big furball (30+) with base on fire, and cv group nearby, I have seen single digits.
