StSanta or skydiving video nuts
« on: August 25, 2004, 07:22:24 AM »
I was reading in another post a while back where someone registered as StSanta had been to Russia skydiving and was converting some video.
I need some advice/help on which programs, etc work best for converting/compressing video to burn to discs.
My neighbor just got a new Sony helmet cam. He is wanting to film first time tandem jumpers to produce discs for sale to the jumper and maybe some instructive films.
He is pretty new to the vid end of it, but is a seasoned DZ freak.
  Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Do you mean that he wants to burn the vids on CD-ROMs?

It would be wiser to directly burn them on DVDs.

What do you think is the best software to use for this?

StSanta will be no help.  Heck, he can't even find the main arena. :)

It depends...if he has a vid card with video input (like an ATI AIW), and a DVD burner on his PC, he would be able to use the software he received with the vid card and the burner to make DVDs that anybody can watch on his DVD player and TV. He would also be able to make compressed vids to put on CDs or to post on the web (the version of Nero supplied with DVD burners is enough to do this). Of course, if he wants to do some editing he should find a better program for this (honestly I don't know which one)

OTOH if his PC isn't equipped with such a vid card/DVD burner, and if he isn't a computer geek, he should buy a standalone DVD burner instead: prices are now quite low and their use is pretty straightforward.... + he can take his gear to the DZ and immediately make a DVD of the jump to sell it to the tandem passenger ;) :aok

Thanks for the input. His PC is pretty outdated , so I am trying to help him on what to get set up with on a new one with all the bells and whistles he needs.
