New System
« on: August 25, 2004, 08:52:04 AM »
Well I've decided to go for a new system and would love to get some feedback on what to get. I have already decided on an Athlon rather than Pentium, but as to video card, ram etc., would like to hear ideas. Cost would not really hold me back, to a point :)

It seems that 512k of Ram is normal nowadays, is more much of an advantage?

Video cards seem to have the biggest choice. I've read of people that have the best ATI card (9800xt?) and still have issues in AHII.
Read a post about the X800 in here, not familiar with that one. Nvidia cards any good for AHII?

AHII is my main game so I would tend to build my computer based around the best preformance for that, but would like it to run the newer games as they come out too.

Would appreciate any and all advice on this.

Hi shoppe

if AH is your goal you dont need a "monster" computer.

i got me a new rig just a month ago and so far everything i ran on it went smoothly.

i have :
Athalon XP2500 (barton core)
abit nf7-s2 mother board- doesnt suport a gameport. if you have a gameport joystick dont get it.
512Mb of ram (500ddr)
MSI radeon 9800 Pro

this is not a top notch system but its good enough for me.

the best way to make out your mind is to decide
A. spending limit
B. what are you going to do with the computer

Flyboy is correct, without a budget, you will get a thousand possibilities from the folks here. Everything from Celeron 2.4 s to Athlon 64 FX.  So give us your total budget, and whether that includes having to buy joystick/rudder/pedals and a monitor.
