Are these guys VietNam Vets?
« on: August 27, 2004, 02:56:57 PM »

People who were not around or aware 1967 to 1972 don't recall the division this Country endured. Millions of good decent Americans were on both sides of the issue. Most gave their lives overseas and should be honored. Many also gave up their lives or livelyhoods here at home. All of them good Americans, fighting for something they believed in.

None should be villified ... on either side.

I got teargassed... does that count?

It was all we talked about or heard about.   Even so... no one was explaining what we were doing there or what the goal was..

Most of us lost all enthusiasm for the war when it became apparent that we weren't there to win... we were to just hold the line while they got stronger.

Most of us new that we could "win" if we would just attack the enemy and bomb his side of the fence.  We shoulda had American flags flying in hanoi instead of sending traitors like fonda over there to sell out our POW's.

When I was an undergrad the student population was reduced to protesting PARKING FEES

I hated those sign holding half-wits... so much.

Strategically Vietnam made sense from a Cold War perspective.  But because we lacked the will to confront China and Russia we lost tactically.  It's really as simple as that and a lot of men and women lost their lives for nothing.

No they are not veterans, and at the risk of stirring up an old argument, I recall that some of you Kerry supporters were quite adimant that civilans had no right to protest or question the deeds of soldiers in wartime...   So by that standard I suppose these people are criminals or somethjing.. :(

Trying to justfy breaking the law and causeing violence in the name of peace is no better than a soldier trying to justify war crimes for the sake of war.

nonsense there are plenty who should be villified. disagreeing with govt course of action is one thing. protesting govt action is fine. aiding enemy of your govt in time of war because you want to see your govt officials "lose so they can be put in their place" is treason. there are plenty of people who were extreme leftist anti american who commited treason and "got a pass".

the big shame is that if i remember what i read right about half of the college kids killed or wounded had nothing to do with the protest. not saying the protesters deserved to be shot and killed but they at least contributed to the outcome. but the kids walking on campus hit by stray rounds were totally innocent.
