I have to disagree.  The Viet Cong were destroyed when they came out of hiding during the Tet Offensive of 1968.  After that the NV regulars were the only Communist still fighting and they were using both Cambodia and Laos as 'Safe Havens'.

If the US had bombed Hanoi we could have won the war.  ( I know you don't believe this, but it comes from interviews with NV leaders after the 1972 Christmas Offensive)   Tens of thousands of deaths in NV could have save millions in Cambodia later.  It's an awful calculation but pretty close to the mark.

Thank goodness otto i thought I was the only one who had read those interviews. Otto would you look at my post about tet. ,  under, swifties are not gop shills , and see if I got any of it right?

To win the war in Vietnam did not mean to put American soldiers on the china border. I t meant to completely destory N.V. ability to fight which we could have done.

None killed were closer than 80 meters to the guards, would have been a long toss, maybe they had Don Sutton in their ranks?

Four students were murdered at Kent State by National Guardsmen... the VERY SAME National Guard President Bush belonged to.

I blame him for this travesty.

One of the four was not even protesting but walking to class.  Thats the real tragedy.  Not even involved in the protest.  The others?.......life is risky business.  Just breathing opens up all sorts of tragic possibilities.

This incident happened in front of the architecture building at Kent State (Taylor Hall) where my wife studied for 5 years.  Her brother was in school that day (at Kent State).  We now live about four miles away.
