I'm 16, and I'm a re-enactor, I preserve our military history, and educate others about it...

I was taking my Dads guns(1911 .45 and .357 mag black hawk) and driving myself to the range at 16, the range was cool with it as long as I brought my own ammo.

I was handling guns as young as 8.

My dad never let me have a toy gun. Guns are not toys, and he  never wanted any confusion.

My parents trusted me. They were right in doing so. Guns were one area I was always responsible. I loved shooting and did not want to lose the privlidge for any reason.

I think gun ownership for kids really should depend on the kid, and it should be the parents call to make. In Cali it is not anymore. I think they passed a law that puts the mininum age for a kid to shoot a gun at 18? (It has been  a while since I read it. I will look now)
Checked, Still could do what I was doing but would need written permission from my parent.

No, its not.  Its a MN.

Most muzzle loaders had bayo's extended on the right or left side to allow access to the ram rod below.

IIRC, this rifle is set up the same way.

And if so, for which side?

Same thing happened to me Hawklore.  Smacking it with a rubber mallet did the trick.  However, you're going to need a second person.  Do not put it in a vise (it will damage it) and do not aim the bayonet at anything important when you whack it.
