I was wondering which plane was your favorite and why.  Also the little differences between them if you know.

Try them out!

Earlier ones are slower, but slightly more manuverable. Later ones are faster and climb better.

Gondolas increase your weapons punch a LOT, but make you turn slower (more weight in the wings).


I like the E-4, but only for nostalgic reasons. If I really want to get kills (more than 2-3) I'll fly a F-4 or G-10, but that's just me.

DISCLAIMER: I'm no expert. Hell I can't even fly well.

If you learn The G-6 you will have all the skills you need to fly any plane. If fly the G-10 well then its just another "go fast plane" that any one can easily master.

The G-2 and F-4 are good as well but no 3cm. Learn the 3cm and gunnery will never be a problem.

The 109s will be heavy on the controls at about 640kmh.

All 109s are best flown as Energy fighters - using their high climb rate to dictate the engagement. Normal Boom & Zoom tactics with very high-speed passes do not suit the 109's style. It is better suited to the style of energy combat where the main objective is to set up a moderate altitude advantage right over or near the target. Then use short sprint dives with moderate closure rates for gun passes. The 109 can then climb back out and loop or climb away as necessary.

Turning in the 109 should be done at about 300-350 mph. The 109s have a decent instantaneous turn rate. This will allow you to get inside a breaking enemy in the early part of the turn. It is best not to follow an enemy through the turn. Climbing into a yo yo would be best if you don’t get a guns solution. But if you do get sucked in the 109s have excellent acceleration. A slight nose down extension will allow you to regain speed quickly.

Also if get inside a breaking enemy unload your g's before you fire. What you want to do is guess/predict where the enemy will be then release stick pressure so you will have an easy deflection shot. Pulling g’s and firing will most likely be a waste of ammo because the enemy will be below your site line.

All 109's, regardless of version, share numerous traits:

Excellent climb rate
Good rudder response
Good performance between 12 and 22k
Above average low speed handling
Good negative-G handling
Good Acceleration
Below Average visibility from the cockpit
Not particularly "new pilot friendly"
Moderate to low ammunition supply
Heavy Controls above 640km/h
Mediocre durability

Learn the G6. The lessons will be painful but I guarantee that this fighter will teach you a lot.

Here is a quick tip, in the sort of short attack dives wotan mentions (i didnt ever read his post but I guess its there) keep speed under 400mph and you should keep good control aoutority for aiming, above 400 you will lock up.

I dunno about that... I've got some AH2 films of me in HTH taking out P38s, a George, a SpitVIX (yeah he was a newb, but still) and various other planes in 1v1

It rolls "okay". Not great, but good. It is good at using mini-zoom climbs (hey, it only has so much speed/momentum) and hammerheads/zero-gee moves to reposition on the enemy.

I guess it's all relative to a certain degree. For me it rolls 'bad' like the A6M. I'm no expert by any stretch, but I find rolling other 109's much easier, specially with lots of rudder. I find scissoring in the E a nightmare.

109F4 is probable best for n00b's to the 109 series.  that for the G2 they teach pretty much the basics of 109 flying.  then you can move on to the G6 learn the 3CM would be about all you have to do, but it seems in the AH2 the 3cm can't do much, so the 20mm is in effective much more useful.  One of the first lessons you will learn is about gondies.  don't bring them to a turn fight.

Been sticking with the a5 for a while, and I love the rolling scissors when you get into trouble, but if you have a vet on your butt that knows how to regulate his/her throttle you could get into some danger as the a5 isn't a dora and doesn't get all that fast very quickly.  

Problems I had with the 109s is I can't seem to keep the front end still at all.  Seems really bouncy and if I cut throttle to stay behind a target the stupid thing wants to snap left worse than my a5.  I find the g10 kinda fun to fly, but I just haven't worked out how to fly it affectively yet.  For me its good for about 3 kills a sortie, but if I get in trouble I can't seem to get out of it.  

Just my thoughts...

I would choose the 190-A5.  handle great, awesome roll, loadout competes with the top 4 MA planes , climb is good enough to rope/out climb most MA fliers and the target reticle seems well placed and easier to use than the 109 series. Did I mention the awesome skins we now have for it.

109f for base defence, and it can hang with many late war monsters for a while.

109g2 is my fav. guns just seem more lethal even though they are the same... maybe the plane just handles better.

i never load the gondolas, except a g10 with the 20/30mm double package to kill NOE lancs. thats about all i'll fly it for. intercepting a NOE buff mission.

you can get a 109e off the runway at a vulched base easier than a zeke IMHO, and you will turn almost as good. the guns only bruise tomato's so be prepared for some serious spraying a wing to get a kill.


g6 is just not my friend. whenever i fly it i get bounced by a high la7 or spit IX and die. i could take off 3 sectors back and still find a spit or something higher than me it seems lol.

like some said, if you can get used to the tater, you will kill many many planes, though there seems to be some discrepency on the hit power of it lately. i personally have such bad aim in general i can't use it (except in the above mentioned load with the gondolas to kill buffs up close and personal).

there are some other JB's (11, 22, and others) that fly the 109 more than myself, and can kill me 1-1 every time, look them up and they's probably help.
I don't know what to put here yet.

109 G2, even with gondies you can do a spiral climb that will make Spit 9 drivers pull their hair out. :D
