Time to retire...
« on: February 10, 2001, 10:55:00 PM »
Gents,

The time has come to retire or as ghosth put it, pass the torch.  I started the 332nd Flying Mongrels in 1997, and have flown over 100 missions with my squad. I no longer have the time, energy, or desire to keep running this squad where I have gained some wonderful friends and countless hours of fun.  Because of Warbirds and Aces High I have made some life long friends that I never would have otherwise.

With this teaching job I drive 2 hours everyday.  If I was single that would not be a problem, but when I get home I need to help out and spend some time with the kids.  Usually the kids are down about 8 PM but sometimes not till 9 PM. That gives me an hour or two to spend time with my wife, watch the news, grade papers, read a book, fly, e-mails, work on the web site…you get the idea.  Bottom line is I am burning out.  Looking ahead we are going to have our 4th in a month.  As much as I love my children that will mean more sleepless nights and long days with little or no energy.  I figure I better step down now before I fall off the stage. ;-)

CM duties also take a lot of my time. This is something I am not burned out about, but does take time. I terribly miss the Historical Arena in Warbirds and can hardly stand flying in the main. I almost never did in Warbirds.  Flying a P-38 and getting jumped by P-51's, Chogs, and P-47's does not float my boat.  I really need to push weekly events or I will have no reason to keep my account in Aces High.  I know most really enjoy flying in the main, but that does nothing for me.

I feel confidant one of our squad members will take over, but am not sure who yet.  I want to thank all of you who have made the move to Aces High a good one for myself and my squad.    I especially want to thank pyro for his help in that area.    There are so many from other squads that have been a pleasure to fly with and get to know and I want to thank you all for the fun times!

I will stay within my squad (assuming someone will take over) and am looking forward to more time to work on weekly events.

Four kids huh? Congrats! The family takes a lot of time, I've got 3 crumbcrushers myself. I know where you're coming from.

We all go through the burnout now and then. Glad to hear you're not leaving us, as the "daddogs" of Aces High are few and far between.

<S> Daddydog

Hehe, sounds to me like you have too much free time!

I just about had a heart attack reading this, until I read that you'll still be a CM.

Always has, and always will be a pleasure working and playing with you, sir.

Dad it sounds like you have your priorities straight.  <Salute> and hope you are able to stay active in AH.

Daddog-

As someone who just came back from a forced hiatus, let me just say that you have to know when to get the house in order (which apparently you do).

I'm back now, and enjoying a different type of play than when I left. When the time eases a bit, come back and say "no" to the responsibilities (within the game, of course) that wind up taking all your "fun" time. Relax, just enjoy being "Joe Public" for a while. You've done a lot for the sim, it is time for someone else to take up your slack.

<S> chap 24 hours is to short for a day
What I can understand is not many people here got lot's off time to be in AH.

These people I think want their few spend hours to be high quality this quality can't be found in the MA but in the HA or a good scenario. So I hope we get one HA when we have the numbers.

In this way  AH would be interesting for people who haven't that much time.

I'm with Daddog about the main arena.  It gets boring fast.

Hello DD!

I am on a vacation from AH also.  I sure hope you are here when I come back!  I remember us talking on ICQ when I was thinking of joining WB. Then AH came along and I flew that.  Soon you were in AH also.  It was good to finally fly with you.

The FMs are a top notch squadron and it is always good to see them "up".

Good luck in everything you do and I have no doubt we'll be meeting again in the virtual skies!

Powell: Yes Rock.
Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.
Rock:  No ya wouldn't.
