AH Support IS the Best!
« on: August 23, 2004, 05:29:51 PM »
Today, as I entered my office(in my basement), I see nothing but dark, as my monitor was off...err, dead.  After looking at a few AH posts, and reviews, it was clear I needed some help, as the monitor research I was doing wasn't getting me any fast answers, as there are more monitors than I care to read reviews on.  What to do?  I called Skuzzy for advice.  Whew, cut my research time down to minutes!  Off to New Egg, and ordered a NEC FP2141SB-BK 22" CRT monitor.   I will let the wife find out when the credit card statement arrives.  Hey, I deserve a better monitor :)   If not the best.  Thanks for the help Skuzzy!

What is the advantage of a CRT monitor over an LCD monitor?

Are 3d gaming glasses dependent upon a CRT monitor or do they work with other kinds?

I am considering a LCD monitor in the near future, but I would like to understand the advantages of a CRT.

Any advice, or comparison links would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Balsy

Due to the nature of LCD, there is a smearing effect when high speed changes of pixel colors is required.  The simplest way I can explain this is, LCD's cannot transition on/off as fast as a phosphor dot in a CRT.

Visually, this allows a CRT to be much clearer than an LCD.  LCD's are great for static data or images that move very slowly, but the technology is just not right for high speed image motion.

$634.00 plus $35.00 shipping :)   It's what I use the most, and will match my ATI 9800 Pro.  Soon to come a new motherboard and cpu combo - AMD 3800+.  I want an Isky roller cam, set of Doug's headers, and a 4:88 gear too.  ;)

I received my monitor today, and it is worth every penny.  This monitor is the best I've ever seen.  Totally awesome.  Colors jump out at you, and the clarity is excellent.  Thanks again Skuzzy!

The only thing I would suggest Thorns, is to set the color temperature (in the monitor menu) somewhere between 6200K and 6500K.  I believe it is defaulted to around 9200K.

You will need to adjust the brightness and contrast a bit, but the colors are richer at that temperature setting and it is easier on your eyes.
