BERLIN, Sept 3 (Reuters) - A German woman has died from fatal bite injuries inflicted by her dog which attacked as she lay collapsed from a seizure, police in the northern city of Bremen said on Friday.
 
The 36-year-old woman was at home with two friends on Wednesday when she had a seizure and fell shaking to the ground.

"The pit bull jumped on the woman and inflicted lethal bites to her head and neck," said police spokesman Dirk Siemering.

The two men tore the eight-year-old dog, named "Lucie," away from her owner and forced the animal into the garden.

Police arrived later and shot the dog

I agree, it's the owner, and every owner should should be held 100% accountable for their dog's actions.

Was it her dog? Why would anyone want to keep a dog that would attack it's owner? If these damn dogs are going to attack someone, I hope it's the owner every time.

nope... dogs attack people.  sometimes it is the owners fault.   sometimes not... it makes no difference tho..  the owner should be responsible.

They should make Pit Bull owners undergo a surprise attack by one before that can own one. That would cut down on their popularity.

Well this on got me out of lurk mode.....

History,
I'm 48 and have had one or more dogs most of my life.  I have been involved in training both pets and working dogs, .  And have also worked with larger animals and stock.

Dogs have advanced mental capabilitys and complex personalitys.    In spite of this, many actions are hard wired in to them.
        Most dogs do well with humans becuse they are "Pack" animals and really want to belong.  One of the most important things in training a dog is establishing domanace and "alpha" status for the trainer.  

Some dogs have instintcive behaviour unique to thier particluar breed.  Notable among thiese art Dobermans and Chows which are very much "One person" dogs who bond with a particluar person and mearly tolerate the rest of the humans around them.  other dogs have built in desire to work, any Husky or Malamute loves to pull and will do so in prefrence to allmost any other "game".  And unfourtanatly some dogs have been bred for fighting for many hundreds of years breeders have been selecting for agressivness and instincts that make a winning anamal.  It not that these dogs cant be kept as a pet, it is the fact that these dogs have triggers built in to thier minds that relese the need to attack.  

Keeping a Pit bull or any other of the fighting breeds of dog is very like keeping a Lion or Jaguare as a pet, it can be done, but even experts get hurt.  
  An OWNER is one hundred percent responsable for thier aniamal just like they are resposable for thier car or thier gun.  Keeping a fighting dog is like keeping a rifle or an aircraft, if you use them incorrectly they will hurt some one.

I can't stand pitbulls.  Just the other day on my street one ripped its leash out of its owners hands, and mauled this little bichon puppy the kids across the street just got.  Not sure if they had to put it to sleep, just thank God the dog went after the bichon and not the kids.

At any rate, that's pretty ****ed up.  

Then of course, there is the pitbull up the street that always barks real loud and angry like whenever I walk my dog past its house.  I do my best to stay off his "turf" by walking on the other side of the street and all, but the dog just runs right up to the edge of its lawn barking like hell.  The stupid bellybutton that owns it yells "oh it's ok, we have an invisible fence!" WTF!?!? You crazy bimbo! I had a Jack Russell Terrier (little dog, "Eddie") that would bolt right through an invisible fence when it really wanted something! You think it's going to stop a pitbull!?!?!?!

IMO the only thing less responsible than owning a pitbull is failing to restrain it.  I will admit there must be some very decent, friendly, pitbulls out there, true...  But unless you are a professional dog trainer you have absolutely NO business owning one.

Course I'm biased.  See what I've seen and try not to be.
