Strange sortie?: Base defense with a Ju-88

After completing a fighter sweep that lasted nearly an hour, I noticed that the knits were hitting P21 and A19.  I decided to come up and defend them, since the knit forces were small and the Rook defense was non-existant so far.  Unfortunately, all hangars were down at 21 and 19 except for 19's bomber hangar.

I noticed that the con was gone over P21, and guessed that it succumbed to the flack/ack there or it had taken all ack down and ditched for a C-47.  I decided to bring up a Ju-88 and watch for the incoming goon.

As I neared 21, I noticed that a fellow rook had come up in a B-26 with the same thing in mind.  We swept the immediate area of the base and did not see a C-47.  We headed west still sweeping.  Along the way, I avoided a HO pass with a b-26 that was diving down on me.  No way I was going up against those .50's in his nose with that bb-gun the Ju-88 is equiped with.

As I passed below the 26, I noticed a low con.  It looked like it might be a C-47.  I descended and noticed the friendly 26 was coming from the other direction.  We both merged behind the target, wich turned out to be another B-26.  We tore him apart.  A B-26 and a Ju-88 jumping a B-26.  I got the assist, the .50's got the kill.

I broke off immediately and began heading west again.  I spotted another low con about a minute later.  This one turned out to be a C-47.  I came in behind and pinged the hell out of him.  No smoke or visible damage.  Damned bb-guns!  The second pass yeilded critical damage just as the friendly B-26 was arriving.  For this on, I got the kill.

I was eventually killed by a Typhoon that I must have pinged 100 times on the way in.  I swear I could see the bullets bouncing off of his aircraft.  Oh well.. mission accomplished.  The fighter hangar was now up at 19

You bastage Deja! That was me trying to HO you. I started salivating like Pavlov's dog when I saw a co-alt JU-88 headed right for me.  

Anyway, instead of following you, I proceeded to 21 and killed the remaining acks. If it weren't for you and your fellow Rook, 308 Sqn would've chalked up another base capture.

Btw, last night was the most fun I've had on AH in about 3 months. After our failed port capture attempt, my squaddies & I went on a GV mission from A8-A7, in Panzers & Ostis. Had one heckuva fun time against guys trying to drop bombs on us from 500ft. <S> Tac, darkstar, et al.

The action wasn't very sim-like, but was fun nonetheless. Even we Amish like to play arcade style from time to time.

I still dont understand how a vehicle can survive 2k of bombs falling 10ft from it. That thing should at least roll over or fly up. Drop 1 1k bomb 10 ft from a modern Abrams (however you spell that) tank and it WILL flip.

Hehe, ya I don't understand either, but we were getting pinged left & right, but no actual damage. Must be that inferior Rook powder.  

Beefcake got darkstar on film falling from the sky in his Lanc. Wing missing, streaming black smoke, darkstar managed to toggle his whole bomb load off just before he hit. All the bombs blew up right among most of us, and actually killed on of our Osty's.

Too, too fun. Most fun I've ever had in a GV.

LOL banana!  My next sortie was in a F4u-1D on a fighter sweep.  I saw that you guys had given up on P21 (came damn close to capturing it.. thank God for 1 ping flak kills) so I decided to head towards the city between 8 and 7.  I figured there were some ground vehicles there and was getting pissed that I didn't load rocks or eggs when I realized I forgot to unload them

I got a panzer and a flak at the city, but didn't have any ammo for you dweebs at 7  I also got 3 P-47's and a B-26 that sortie.  It was another one of those EXTREMELY wierd sorties.  I have a pretty good tape of it, and seriously doubt people would believe what they were seeing.

Held off about six attackers for an hour at 28 one night, by jumping from fighter, to Ostie, to goon hunter buff, back to Ostie, etc., etc.....as the hangars went down and came back up.  Nothing like cruising on the wave tops in a B-26, and spotting those low, slow dots....  Fun stuff.

I have a good story from last night,

hblair and i decided to try and sneak a capture. He headed out in front in a b26 to deack and down the radar at whatever field it was, and I parked my c47 on a small grassy knoll.

Tactical mistake.

bloom25 was headed right for the field I upped from to hit *it* with his bombs, and he passed right over me. Dropped a 250lb right on me head!

Said he had a film of it, I'd like to see.

Been there, dont that.  and love it!  

 I defend the base to the last hangar and by any means at my disposal - short of pickling bombs next to the enemy troops/m3 or landed C47. And I will not taxi an aircraft around on the ground to shoot same. But if it drives or flies and I get 'wheels' up then watch out.

Your statement is simply not true.  Either its a connect issue, or delayed death via a connect issue...but 2k will indeed take out any GV..500 lbs delivered properly is sufficient.

Rip I think what he is saying is that they were hitting them but no damage was being done.

I've done this many times. Dropped bombs right on the tank or osty and have them keep driving. Prolly a conx problem but still aggravating.

Duh, re-read the post, he's saying collateral damage should be more than it is...interesting..I might agree with that!

Just yesterday Deja I did the same thing to Nimitz   Took most of the forward rounds to do any damage (oil leak and fuel leak) then I pulled ahead of him and finished him off with the tail guns  

Even ran into another C47 headed for the port that sortie - No rounds left in the forward gun though! I tried to keep track of him using keyboard rudder (pedals died) and shoot him with the gun position, but just ended up colliding. He got the kill! I got the opportunity to kill him in a PT boat straightafter

The TBM is great for defending bases with fhs down. You can dive or level bomb osties, and it makes a half-decent fighter too.

  I was the goon. That was my 2nd trip over, i augered circling W of 21, was in outside view when i should have been looking at my instruments, it was kind of dark   I aslo crashed when you made your 2nd pass, too bad because I almost had you where i wanted you.
