Ilmari Juutilainen's Bf 109G-2
« on: September 06, 2004, 02:31:19 PM »
This is Finnish Ilmari "Illu" Juutilainen's Bf 109 G-2 signed MT-222. Juutilainen's total aerial victories were 94 including both the Finnish Winter War (1939 - 40) and The Continuation war (1941 - 44).

With the MT-222 Juutilainen shot down 17 Russian planes in 1943. All in all he was the Top Ace of Finland and the best non-German fighter ace in the world!

MT-222 got this very special camouflage after her renovation in summer 1943:

Thank you bros!:)

United: FAF is the FINNISH Air Force, it had nothing to do with the Luftwaffe between 1939 - 1944. In the Continuation War Luftwaffe was in the Norwegian and Finnish Lapland, but they had totally their own area to fight.

The only exception was the Department Kuhlmey, which helped Finland very much with their Jabos (Stuka/Focke Wulf) couple of weeks when Russian had their Great Offensive in the Karelian Isthmus in summer 1944! ;)

Here are couple of MT-222 reference pictures I used when created this skin:

I meant Luftwaffe as in its an original luftwaffe bird.  I know its Finnish, but Im used to calling 109s luftwaffe, just a slip of the tongue. :)

Great work!

No point United! As you have seen we Finns are very serious with those Finland/Germany proportions in those days: Finland fought against Russia and Germany was the only possible ally in 1941 - 1944! ;)

One point more: I have wrote there abbreviation "LLv34" (Lentolaivue 34 = 34th Squadron). Historically the right abbreviation in 1943 was "LeLv34". But because one of the best AH's virtual squadron "Lentolaivue 34" use the shortening "LLv34", I wrote it so: this is now their "Card plane"! :aok

Why does it have a light top of fuselage?

To me it seems in that original BW picture that it had a standard German paint line making the top fuselage darker than the lower part.

This is not evident in Manninen's picture for some reason.
