If a flap is damaged while deployed, the remaining flap still operates, (on film too) however the FM acts as if the remaining flap is stuck down. This was also true in AH1 iirc. However in the AH2 FM the asemetrical lift, makes elevator athority nearly useless due to the strong yaw, and requires 1/2 alerion just to keep level wings going straight. With drag and yaw, it is effectively terminal damage if nme around.

On the reverse of that in another flight, I took damage with flaps up, but did not have time to ctl-d, and suffered no flight control problems. On approach I found out it was a flap that was damaged, because it yawed me into the dirt. So in that instance it definately does operate.

FM doesnt seem consistant with the graphics in the first instance, and the reaction of the FM to the 2 scenerios are not consistant.

Has been my experience. If a flap is damaged destroyed while deployed the damaged flap says down. Redeploying undamaged flap restores stability with the draw back of extra drag etc. Would be nice if damage model showed flap intact when its damaged and stuck and effecting stability. Also if flap is destroyed gone missing no longer attached to airframe to show it missing with no effect on flight model due to it being deployed at time of destruction.

I get what you are saying ice.
My point is, I lose (as in removed from airframe) a left flap with flaps retracted, there is no effect on the flight model unless I try to deploy flaps, in which case it causes a yaw to the left until it is retracted.
I lose a left flap with flaps extended. I yaw left. I retract flap (in this case the undamaged right flap. The right flap does visually retract. It still yaws left.
The cause/effect doesnt add up to me, which leads me to think it doesnt react this way by design. Hence a bug?

Had my P51B port flap shot off by a 109 today, while it was out 3 stages. I limped back but I had a literally uncontrollable roll. I was stuck in a dive from about 12k down to the deck. I could not stop rolling (lost 1 aileron, that might have helped) to starboard. The problem? The MISSING FLAP was still deployed about 3 stages. I had to use all my rudder and flying skills to stop a nose-down P51B going at 400mph. Well, "stop" meaning "slow down to 200mph" so I could deploy the remaining flap and limp home.

Also, if the flap is destroyed while deployed, it will remain like that at ALL SPEEDS, take note.

I just barely made it back. Wasn't fun. Felt like I lost a wingtip, in flight manerisms, until I got that other flap down again.

I'd say this is a big bug.

P.S.

If destroyed while up, they never go down. If destroyed while down, they never go up. Oversight, bug, whatever. I don't see why you're confused. Seems logical to me.

Hmm krusty, mabey I did have it backwards. Mabey it was the missing flap that was throwing things off. The 2 times Ive had it happen in AH2 I did not have the luxurey to fool around with ctl-d since there were multi enemy right there.

Still a bug - happened to me in a P-51B yesterday. deployed flap was shot away, but upon retracted the undmaged flap, aircraft behaved as if damaged flap was still fully deployed.

They should have 2 damage models with flaps. One being damaged but still there and will not move. 2 have where the flap totally shot off. On the Damage buffer have yellow as damaged but not operational and red and shot off or gone.
