Saitek X45 hat issues
« on: September 03, 2004, 12:15:42 PM »
Hiya Folks,

I have seen multiple posts on this issue, but nothing difinitive.  Alot of the buttons on my X45 don't work at all when I try to map them, Normally when you hit buttons the mapper darkens the ones you hit, I get alot of dead buttons on the mapper.  These buttons work in other simulators so I know it's not the stick.  Using latest drivers, also tried the profile listed on the forums.  I can't really fly AH without working hat and the other functions are fairly important too, any suggestions?

We only map the first 8 buttons automatically, you need to manually map the rest in the game.

Start Aces High II and go to the "Offline" option from the clipboard.

Here is an example:

From the clipboard:
1) Select "Setup".
2) Select "Controls".
3) Select "Joystick".
4) Select "Select Joystick"
5) If you have multiple sticks, select the one you want to work with from the "Joystick" list panel.
6) Select "But 9" from the "AH Control" list.
7) Select "Button 8" from the "Joystick Input"
8) Press the "Set Input" button.

Repeat until all the buttons in the "AH Control" list are used or you run out of buttons.  No matter how many physical buttons you have, you can only map 32 of them in Aces High II.

Hiya Scuzzy,

Perhaps I wasn't sufficiently clear, I can't map the buttons because the game doesn't recognize it when I hit them to map them.  Normally when you hit a button on the joystick, the corresponding button on the graphic darkens as it is selected, this is not occuring when I try to map the hat.  Other buttons are also behaving the same way.  I can manually click on the buttons, if I know which ones correspond to the hat switch, but it is difficult to know that when they don't select when pressed.  Aces High 1 worked properly with my joystick originally, after a few patches it stopped working, then a few patches later it started working again.  The hat was the issue then as well.  I haven't flown AH2 yet, this is the first time I have tried to set it up, however I beta tested AH1 so I am quite familiar with the mechanics of the game.  At this point I have tried quite a few tricks, including new drivers etc. with no positive results.  This is definitely not a routine problem, I could have taken care of that with no problem.  This is a case of the normal responses having no effect.

Reread Skuzzy's post, he is not directing you to the mapping portion of preferences, he is taking you to the actual stick inputs setup. Maybe that will help.

Are you saying you tried what I said and it did not work?

Before you can map buttons to a command, you have to first tell Aces High the buttons exist.  We only recognize the first 8 buttons.  It is up to you to setup the rest of them so Aces High can recognize them in the "Stick Mapper".

Hey!

Did you get it figured out? I set mine up and had the same issues. The first hat on the joystick (the lower one) should be set to POV 1. All the remaining hats, including the second one on the joystick, are set to POV 2 and respectively, throttle 1,2,3,4 and mouse 1,2,3,4.

The remaining hats don't rotate around a "hat setup" like POV 1 does, they must point to button positions, not the 2nd hat set up.

For example, my first j/s hat is all my "up" views set with the 1st hat setup on stick mapping.

My second j/s hat is set up in j/s config so that POV 2 (0) is button 29, POV 2 (90) is button 30, POV 2 (180) is button 31 and POV 2 (270) is button 32.  In stick mapping, button 29 is look forward, 30 is look right, 31 is look back, 32 is look left.

Also, in the Saitek programming package, I have POV 2 set up as an 8 way button. I don't know how much of a difference it makes, but out of the box it's set up as a 4 way. My second hat on the j/s functions exactly as the first one does, so even though it is mapped to buttons, there is no difference in the way it plays compared to the first hat on POV 1.

Anyway, this works for me, there may be a better way to do it.
