It's a thread about Catalunya - the flag made that quite clear in the initial post. No troll. Cyrano is OK too. Quit your paranoia.

Right, so you honestly couldn't and can't see how the orginal title alone of your thread might be misintrepreted by a great number of people?

Oh don't give him that out.  If you do he can still continue to claim that it wasn't a deliberate troll, but that he's sorry for any misunderstanding.

Too bad. I loved Dublin. I loved the relaxed attitude everywhere, and the way the bartenders would bring your Guinness over to you.

No mention of any non-Euro country in my initial post.

Hey, I know where Catalonia is.

Daniel, I wish you many more.

Actually made me laugh. Lazs, I think you need to invite our English friend back to the US for some more target practice. In fact, in a celebration of his heritage, he should wear a shirt with the "British Bulleye" on the back.

But Spain remembers that date for another, and no less valid, reason. Just because it was centuries ago, and in another part of the world, in no way detracts from that day's historical significance. It marked the end of a war in which many more than 3000 died.

That region of Spain has its own language, still in active use today.

Just so ya know, I know where Catalonia is, without the maps. As for as the part of your quote that I put in italics, this day for the world marks the day that 3000 more died in a war that many won't admit we are in, and have been in for years. And will be in for years. This includes you.

And your claims that this post was anything other than a troll, in very poor taste, is countered in your own words.

According to Beet1e's source, it was the date of the last battle of the War of 1812, not including the Battle of New Orleans, whatever that means.

So Americans have reason to celebrate and mourn on the 11th day of September every year. We mourn the loss of our regained cofidence that we were immune from the evils that the rest of the world had been experiencing for 3 decades, and the loss of life in an attack never before seen on our soil. And we can celebrate the defeat of an evil tyrranical country that wished to enslave us and make us a colony again.

Thanks for making me look at the date closer Beet1e, and thanks for the source.

You'll have to speak to me in standard English. I'm not up to speed with all this "own3d/pwned" rubbish...

Gawd, thank Cod it's September 12 already, and we can celebrate something else - the anniversary of Bush's decision to go to war with Iraq?

I think it's unfair to blame me for upsetting people in this thread. That's like saying that "fog causes car accidents", when there's been a major highway pile up in conditions of low visibility. Actually some people DO say that - nothing to do with the fact that they failed to adjust their speed to the conditions...

Maybe my original thread title was somewhat high profile. I didn't see that this would be a problem. I thought that anyone who did trouble to look at my post would see that it was about a European issue, and simply move on.

I will say that in hindsight, if I knew so many people were going to take umbrage, I might have chosen a different title, like the one skuzzy used as a substitute.

But I don't feel that on a BBS, even one so US-centric as this, that people should be barred from noting dates of historical importance in one country, just because the date coincided with a disaster somewhere else.

Lazerus - nothing worthy of a reply.
