The fall of Rome
« on: September 12, 2004, 11:02:49 PM »
Was watching "decisive battles" on hist. chan. tonite about the Goth invasion of Rome and the roman defeat.

It was an interesting show but what was unique is the whole centerplay for the show reguarding the battle was done via video game.

I'm not sure wich one it is but it was some AWSOME animation.  Wondering if it is Rome Total War.  It gave an awsome realism to the battle as compared to human reinactment.  Anyone else catch this show?

Which "fall" of Rome were they referring to?  Was it the sacking of Rome in the 450's AD or the final "fall" in 476?  Or was it earlier in the republic in the 200's BC?  Just curious, missed the program :D

It was in the 200s I beleive.....the battle was were the Roman Emperor was actually killed at the battle or as a result of it.

Cant actually remember the specifics though but this one opened the flood gates for the invasion of rome.  It didnt actually talk about rome falling but mearly the last begining of the end.

Rome is a phenominal place to visit, so much history right before your eyes.

Its worth saving up for the ticket.

History Channel has been doing a series of these with different battles, different eras, using the CGI soldiers.  Very interesting stuff if you catch it.

If it was the same episode I watched then it wasnt the fall of rome,  it was the defeat at Adrianople in 378, the emperor of the eastern empire Valens was killed in the battle.

What surprised me was that they showed Goths as basically looking like peasants.  No black clothes, no dyed black hair, no silver jewlrey and no black eye make-up.

Replicant...your thoughts?

Did you know the Host of Decisive Battles is Seargent/Lt Spears from Band of Brothers?

Personally I liked the special on the war of 1812 on the History Channel Last night. It was probably the best programming I've seen on the Histrory Channel in a while, Thats why I watch History International most of the time.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!
