Suggestion to ENY
« on: September 13, 2004, 02:41:16 PM »
There obviously is quite a bit dissention about the ENY as it is now.  It is my understanding that ENY was initiated as a solution to the side imbalance, which has resulted in players not being able to fly their choice of planes.  Unfortunately, there are times when this solution is not the answer.  For example, at 3:00 p.m. EST the Bish had 45 players and 29 fields; the knights had 56 players and 28 fields; and the rooks had 65 players and 12 fields, yet it was the Rooks whose planes were restricted, obviously creating an imbalance in plane assignments for the Rooks.

As a remedy to the problem with side imbalance, I suggest that there be two maps for the Main Arena for each Tour, such as Trinity and Baltic.  I believe this would resolve the problem because I have observed that most players have a favorite map and they would fly that map given a choice and that would reduce the numbers of players on each map.   Even if one map had an imbalance, thereby resulting in ENY taking affect, the affected player had the choice of going to the other map to fly his choice of plane without having to change countries.

Just my thoughts.   Wizer

I think perking planes for the overpowered side would make sense.

Instead of blocking planes entirely the effected planes get perked.

This would limit the number of low eny planes without blocking them completely.

Perking normal planes would serve only to really annoy newer players.  It also would be more unfair to those who only play occasionally and havn't built up a perk chest of a few thousand :D

so instead of only annoying new players from a country with higher numbers u would rather annoy all of the players of that country??

Also - Think about it: Its much easier for a newer player to switch countries to get cheap planes. I think i dont have to explain why -or do i?

It became quite obvious in a post the HT made yesterday that the ENY disabler is only meant to balance numbers and not gameplay.

If you have more people, and less fields, then it is surmized that with the extra amount of people, you should be able to reclaim some fields back with the extra people.

An attempt to balance numbers IS an attempt to balance gameplay.

Further, if a country has been beaten to the point that it has 5 or 6 fields, but then ends up with more players, it is easy for the other two to cap those few fields, and they get the advantage of having lower ENY planes available as well.

Therefore, although ENY limiter system does attempt to balance gameplay by balancing numbers, in many cases, it fails miserably, because the ENY system itself fails to take into account multiple variables that control how much of a factor numerical advantage is.

Oh well. Possibly the new adjustment will mitigate SOME of the problems with the ENY limiter system. But it simply is not capable of working the way it should. Making it work right may not even be possible, depending on whether the game system and servers are capable of collecting and analyzing the necessary data.

No ... it's an attempt to balance numbers ... gameplay then evolves from the numbers. Gameplay is a by-product of numbers.

Hopefully the latest tweaks will help alleviate the pain that some are experiencing.

Remember, it will go away immediately when numbers are balanced to HT's new parameters ... we all still have a choice.
