John Kerrys DREAM act. College for Illegals?
« on: September 14, 2004, 10:59:48 AM »
Heinz Kerry's 30-minute talk focused on health care, education and jobs. She received a standing ovation when she said her husband would sign into law the "DREAM ACT" if elected president. The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act would allow undocumented young people to become legal U.S. residents, a status that could earn them in-state college tuition and other benefits.

Anyone know how this works?

Will it encourage illegal immigration?

That completely goes against my belief that illegals should be fitted with an exploding collar and sent back home.

Guess it was only a matter of time that along with everything else, our votes would be outsourced.
Here we put salt on Margaritas, not sidewalks.

"The Dream Act, sponsored by Utah Republican Senator Orrin Hatch, would allow the children of illegal aliens here to earn citizenship if they attend college."

That still does not make it any better.

I still do not want my tax money being spent on people the mexican government should be helping them,  not us.

I'm sick of this nonsense from both parties. All of these damn politiancs are tripping over themselves to pander to the mexican vote, even if it means giving up on immigration laws and the sanctity of american citizenship...

Sure it does. How can it be better than the bill having been "still born?"

I too do not want ANY of my tax dollars being spent on something such as this. Especially when I'll be looking for anything and everything to help send my kids to college.

Hell I chaff and get angry at the massive amounts of my tax $$$ being spent on Iraq.

Many public university systems have 'resident' and 'non resident' tuition.  Tuition for non-residents (of the state) is often 10 times higher than it is for residents.  Therefore, if this blurb is accurate, state taxpayers would presumably make up the difference.  I don't know how the feds would expect to pull that off.

Will it encourage illegal immigration?  They are expecting 3,000,000 more of them next year, and they aren't coming to get discounted resident tuition.  With the tuition thing we are mostly talking about teenage illegals who are already here.

You really want to end illegal immigration?  Stop farm subsidies and enforce the law against employers of illegals.  But don't hold your breath expecting our elected tools to do anything that might actually make a difference, there's money to be made.

Get used to it. According to the latest census data the majority of the population of Texas is now 'non-white'. Don't ask me for an definition of that, it was the term used by the news station, and I could not ask them.

Lawrence Journal World, June 27, 2003

Quote
At KU, a Kansas resident taking 15 hours of undergraduate credit per semester will pay $1,763.25 in tuition, which is 20.7 percent or $303 more per semester than during the 2002-2003 school year.

Out-of-state undergraduate students will pay $5,501.25 per semester, up 8.7 percent or $439.50 from last year.

Student fees at KU will increase from $281.50 to $287 for all undergraduates.

This is the second straight year for large tuition increases at state universities. The increases are part of a plan that would more than double tuition at KU by 2007.[/u]

Washington Times, May 24, 2004:

Quote
Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has signed legislation that will allow some illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition at state colleges and universities, instead of the higher out-of-state rate.

Kansas is the eighth state to pass legislation offering tuition breaks to illegal immigrants. Gov. Sebelius, a Democrat, signed the bill Thursday, and it becomes law July 1.

Swell, eh? Tuition to double from 2003 to 2007 but the children of illegals get to be "in state" for tuition purposes.

What could be more "out of state" than an illegal alien?

And this is a RED state. This is some screwed up. You Blue staters are toast.  ;)
