it basicly just made grenade launchers legal.

And yet we have an enemy who has been exploiting the same weapon so effectivly in Iraq?

ohh well we want another terrorist attack we will keep it in place.

do any of you see how this has nothing to do with laz's post.

Laz is referring (in a sarcastic mannor) to a law that allows MORE law enforcment on the streets.

Even if  retired/off duty they are an armed extra set of eyeballs looking out for people doing wrong.

Sounds good to me.

PS.  The attachment wich the ban is talking about (the M-203) is not being used against our troops in Iraq but actually on the terrorists themselves.

Most terrorists are using RPGs.  Nothing like an M203

Do you feel less safe now that Bush has signed this law allowing countless thousands of hanguns to be carried around concealled?

In a goup of hundreds on the street does it make you less or more comfortable that more of them will be armed?

The Bush law was a do something law... the assault weapon one was a do nothing but creeping incrementalism one.  A pretend law for pretend people... A law for the fung sway and aura people.   A veritable vegetarian yoga of a law.

Certainly I know how a wedge works and do believe there is a real threat to our Constitutional rights. However, a meaningless concession (as perhaps the ban was) might be the grease to silence the squeaky wheel.

Back on topic. The real victory will be when every state allows it's citizens the same right to protection as these retired policemen.

iron... you won't silence the anti gun nuts.  if you allow them to demonize one type of firearm they will just move on to the next.

as for grenade launchers.... isn't it the grenade and not the launcher that does the damage?   Did the experation of the so called "assault weapon" ban make owning grenades legal now?

In a nutshell, the assault weapons ban did nothing to stop assault weapons from being used.  (They are used in less than .02 % of crime so far).

What it said was that:

No weapons can be produced after 1986 that have a combo of three of the following things:

A pistol grip.

A flash Surpressor. (horribly evil)

High Capacity Mag usage.

Bayonet Lug. (if I have the option of bullets....)

Collapsible Stock.

Rifle Grenade Launcher. (where is someone gonna get teh grenade????)

So basically you drop the flash surpressor / rifle grenade launcher, bayonet lug, and the collapsible stock, you have the same old semi-auto weapon...

DOH?! kinda stupid in my eyes!  Morons had no clue when they wrote that law, so, you get a law that made no sense.

All the law did was drive up the price on weapons made prior to the ban....

sorry xtoronto..... much as you would like to see dead Americans.... I don't think any will be killed by a bayonet lug or a pistol grip or flash suppressor or even a grenade launcher lug..

nor..... do I think allowing police to carry concealled will cause a mass slaughter of Americans...  sorry xtoronto... you will have to do it yourself if you want it done.
