We should be fine. Thanks for asking. According to the last report I just saw here at work they are thinking that the hurricane (it will still be a Cat. 1) will pass directly through Birmingham after going right up Mobile Bay. Unfortunately nothing in this area is built to withstand Hurricane force winds for as long as they are predicting these will last. They have said that it could take as long as 48 hours and as little as 36 for it to get into north central Alabama and we could expect somewhere between 12-24 inches of rain in that time. In fact we are already getting small rain showers this far north from the storm and we are a good 4.5 hours from the Mobile Bay area.

Got the generator, plenty of beer, liquor, ice in the freezer and hamburger, chicken, pork and water (for mixing purposes only) and am ready to go. The good thing about where I live is there are two nursing homes and a hospital that all run on the same power grid that I am on so they will not let them go to generator power for very long. Heck if I report an outage they have it back up within 1-2 hours. I guess I am spoiled and will really be needing that generator when I move in about a month.

Ended up being without power for a little over 12 hours but my ISP just got things up and running today. According to my buddy who works for them they had two buildings that are part of their links to the internet were damaged here with water damage and in south alabama they lost three routing building completely down to the foundation.

Oh well at least I am back up and running.
