Non-aligned bases
« on: September 16, 2004, 08:23:21 PM »
I was thinking...

Could we have frontline, strategically placed bases that start at the beginning of a new map in the MA. For example, a base with a 5.0k advantage, but has no supplies, troops, fuel etc for any side. This would mean that the first people to land say...3 C47s of bases supplies then takes over it as their own...but, it needs to be resupplied at regular intervals...like in real life frontline bases.

This would mean the only way a side could use this base to their advantage, is to have a continual resupply and protection of supply lines and C47s or m3s. This means, only a side willing to input the effort and coordination would succeed in keeping the base for their own benefit.

Ideally, there would be no spawns into or out of these strategic bases, keeping them safe from massed attacks from GVs.

It would also be good to have a higher number of possible manned acks on the base to make it harder to capture once obtained, but these could have limited ammo, or ammo based on the resupply state at that time. Making the nmy trying to capture the base, think about the timing as well (like siege tactics).

The current methods and ideas of capturing bases is very good, but rather simplistic after a while. Maybe adding just one base like this in the middle of the map (at 5.0k above any surrounding base), with long runways for bomber operation, could really make the difference for a side with less numbers.

What do others think?

I'm trying to figure out how having to logistically support a
base using player only resources could benefit lower numbered
teams.  Assuming that you could find enough players to do the
"scut" work, a huge assumption when you listen to the nearly
constant calls from the landgrab "Adolfs" for a goon to be
brought in .

Think squads. A well organised squad could do the work.

There does need to be some reasoning for the acquisition, the base needs to have something that is just too good to be true...heaps of altitude, or lots of puffy ack, or no town....etc etc. Plus there should be some sort of added perkie point bonus for the "owners" of the base.

I am sure this would work, and would be a very interesting challenge to look into for HTC and the players.
