Why I wont be Dem or Rep. True story
« on: September 17, 2004, 10:39:48 AM »
Ok here is why I refuse to belong to one party or another.
And will NEVER be a diehard member of any party.

The following is an absolute 100%  true story, word for word and is a prime example as how the diehard Dems or Rep are nothing more then mindless lemmings.

I am going to leave out particular party affiliations as it really doesnt matter. I've had the same type responces from both sides in other similar conversations.

I was talking to a fairly respected lady in her community one day and we somehow got on the subject of politics
where she mentioned she was heavily involved with Party X and had acheived considerable rank in her area ( I forget the title now)

So I told her I dont and wont belong to either Party X or Y
She asked why. I said because Im not braindead enough to support a particular person just because he belongs to a particular party.

I then followed by saying
"If Hitler were running for one party, And Jesus were running for the other People belonging to party X would still vote party X and people belonging to party Y would still vote for party Y"

She responded by saying "Oh no I think Jesus would win as  people would all vote for Jesus"

So I said "You mean if Jesus were runing for party Y you would switch and vote for party Y instead?"

She said "No I would vote for Party X"

Thinking maybe she hadnt gotten what I was saying I rephrased.
"Jesus is running for party Y and Hitler is running for party X. You would vote for party X or party Y?

Again her responce "I would vote for party X"

So I asked "why?"

Her Reply, "Because I belong to party X"

Again trying to clarify what was being said over which choice was belonging to which party I said.
"So you mean to tell me that you would vote for hitler over jesus simply because he belonged to your party?

Again her reply "Yes, I would vote for my party"

I chuckled looked at her right in the eye and said "Like I said.. Braindead"
And walked away to her yelling after me
"Whats wrong with voting for the party you belong to?"

100% true story. And she wasnt even Blond

What's that got to do with you?  You won't join a party that aligns with most of your beliefs because you met an idiot?

A responsible voter would vote outside their party....I would vote for Kerry if I thought he was a better canidate..However, I am a Republican and the canidate I support happens to be Republican. The mud-slinging is bad on both sides..but I'm siding with my party for the time being.

Lol.  Good ole'  Archie Bunker type of ignorant, blind allegiance.

Good point and, just as an fyi, I refuse to register as a voter for any political party.  In Massachussetts when one votes you end up automaticly assigned thereafter to the party of the candidate one just voted. Complete b.s. IMO.  A voter needs to take and file another form after voting to remove oneself from that imposed affiliation.  (which I do).

"And she wasnt even Blond"

Perhaps. But "she" certainly posts here under several online aliases for sure.

I'm glad to hear that..It's just your post followed mine and I was saying I'd never swaer allegiance to a particular party just because it's my party.

I agree with what you said about eagler:D

No I wont. simply because  a good deal of those that tend to join such parties also tend to become diehard supporters of them and this they themselves become  just that,"idiots" And they dont particulalry like when you dont become one of their idiots also

I see it all the time here on the boards from both sides
As well as in the government itself.

I dont need anyone telling me who I should vote for, so why join a particular party?
As for the parties themselves I cant honestly say either has a majority in aligment in my beleifs. Each has something to offer and I can agree wholheartedly with.
and each offers just as many things I wholeheartedly dissagree with.
If we had a legitimate third party that was more middle of the road and made sence instead of perfect nonsence a good deal of the time I'd possibly join that.
But given what we currently have. I'd rather stay where I am and pick and choose whom I like when I like without becomming part of this our team Vrs their team reguardless of subject lemming mentality.

I'm a registered Democrat, but I've voted for Republicans at the state and local level.  I haven't been presented with a Republican I'd vote for at the federal level yet.  If it happens though, I'll vote for him/her.

If you don't fall into the majority of one party's beliefs, then you shouldn't join a party.  That wasn't the impression I received from your initial post.  My apologies.

I thought you were avoiding a party because other people are sheep.  To me, that's just stupid.

I'm a registered Republican.  I usually vote Republican.  Not because of the party, but because I generally share the same beliefs as that candidate.  That's why I chose this party.  I have voted for Democrats, though.  It's the issues I'm concerned with.

You see it on the board all the time. People are super sharp picking out not just the obvious but the subtle BS and spin and smoke and mirrors of the other party. But, the same person will go to ridiculous proportions, get a 9.8 in mental gymnastics, to avoid applying the same scrutiny of his or her party of choice.
