Ford is out

Ford announced today it's withdrwal from formula 1.

Can't say I am surprised, Ferrari spend 600 million a year on the sport where ford was 180 million. The cost to operate in F1 has pretty much become obscene, something needs to be done, and it's not making engines last for more races that's for sure.

They should go back to the old days, remove most dowenforce make smaller brakes, and bring racing back into the sport. I has been fun watching the races this year for 2-5 places but the sport is stagnating.

On the other end, I'd like to see an unlimited class.  No horspepower restrictions, no maximum wheel widths, etc.  Just a 'go nuts, super karate monkey death car' class.

I truly think downforce and brakes have ruined it. People say
don't touch it because it is the "pinnacle" of racing. The problem is these cars are more closely associated with aircraft than cars.

Technological innovation can still procede with much less down force and smaller brakes. Have them go back to 4 wheel drifting like Clark, Fangio and Gurney did in the old days, I think it would be much more fun and interesting to watch.

As much as I would like to see this, the costs would be astronomical, perhaps a series where it is based upon countries rather than manufacturers would be cool kinda like the olympics.

F1 cars need fenders and bumpers.  Racing is so dull if the cars can't even get together a little.

It's a shame though, I know the Jag F1 team was just a re branding exercise but the more manufacturers the better.

They should rip out everything thats auto from F1 - starts, gearbox, traction control, you name it, rip it out! Rip the steering wheels out that cost 30k, put 3 pedals back in the cockpit and get rid of the GameCube gear change paddles and put an honest gear stick back in.

Bring back turbos, lets see who has the balls for a 2000hp sprint around Monza :D

Its a shame about Jaguar getting out of F1.

Then again, maybe it'll reposition itself in a different form of auto racing, such as the LeMans style of road racing.

More rule changes like every two years or so. Go from 3.0 V12 to 3.0 V10 then to V6 turbo to 2.5 (lighter chassis) or 3.2 V12 again.  If a manufacturer knows the rules will change every two years, they are less likely to invest so much money. Keep changing the rules. Also they need to modernize the design of the tracks. F1 has reached a point where standard tracks are not a challenge anymore. They need more challenging tracks with wet sections etc...  Most of the cars are very close today within a couple of seconds at most from one another. The best teams/drivers are winning. In racing tires are so important so make the tire manufactures have a rolling teamset. Ferrari Goodyear this race, Ferrari Bridgstone the next race etc... Make the sport more unpredictable.

Ive been thinking about these ideas since the first person whined about Fer... and Schu... Well its not suprising that the best teams and drivers win its just they win all the time. There arent enough best teams and drivers?

not bad for some1 who got accused of being NOT FAST enough......:rofl

I'd like to see a spending CAP in F1, 600mil spent be Ferrari is just way too much.

average it out by all teams and make it stick around 100mil, which most teams can do....

Share of engines for those who cannot make the 100mil. like Sauber who uses Ferrari's last years engines.....

F1 is the High end Tech. of cars, we cannot take away the new stuff they do, but I would like em to come back with the slicks, 3 peddle's and stick shift.
