German flak vehicles
« on: September 20, 2004, 02:17:40 AM »
Since I moved to Germany I've been looking deeply into German flak vehicles. I have found that actual flak guns on panzer frames where very few. Most widely used vehicle was the truck and the heavy half tracks usually referred to as flak wagons. The Germans hardly ever outfitted one of these with a single gun except when they were using 57mm cannon. Mostly tri and quad 20 and 37 mm mounts where used. Since HTC keeps adding differant variations of fighters how about upgrading our flak vehicles with one of these flak wagons. Honestly, throwing another medium tank into the mix isn't going to change tank warfare that much. I guarantee these flak wagons will change how pilots jabo fields. Anyway, just a suggestion.

I'll post a picture of the flak wagon I found in Sinshiem, Germany.
Gotta find the picture first though.

I like the idea though. We need some other kinds of flaktanks, because the M-16 can't stand bullets very well, and the Ostwind is slow and has a lousy aim.

Ostwinds problem is dispersion.

I would like to see the 4 x 20mm modeled.

Now THAT should put a crimp in someones day.

Yea a quad 20mm on a halftrack chasis would be very nice..  And that 20mm aint no MG151 its a much more powerful 20mm.

Of course it also be fine if HTC saved some time and gave us a wirbelwind with those 4 20mm on a Panzer IV cahssis in a turret like the ostwind..

Just be sure to let these guys know that it is a silly notion to program, model and otherwise develop these types of ground vehicles for AH2.
We need to concentrate on the main focus and goal, which is, to have as many planes of all types represented in the arena.

Carry on

I can't hit anything with the darn thing, but every time I see one from an air-e-o-plane, I get swatted down like a slow butterfly...

Please, please, *please* don't give them sheep-shankers 4 of them dang guns! :)

glen,

Those are two different GV's, one is the Ostwind which is armed with a single 37mm flak gun and the other is {just happens to be my favorite} the Wirbelwind which is armed with four 20mm cannons.
Both were used for base defense against enemy aircraft and protecting Panzer divisions in the field.

OSTWIND {Eastwind}

WIRBELWIND (Whirlwind}
