Pronunciation

I have noticed that my wife and her relatives from the U.P. of Michigan not only talk like Canadians eh. They say "Thur" (rhymes with fur) for the possesive form of "Their", and There is pronounced like "th-air" or in other words... like us normal people.

Anywhere else in the US have this same affliction?

BTW, "Y'all", in any form, is correct, no matter where it's spoken. But only if spoken by a southerner. "Yankees" misuse it horribly, in my experience. Y'all know whut ahm talkin 'bout?

Btw... When I lived in Canada before, I of course didn't notice our accents. After coming back to Canada from the US after some years I could hear the Canadian accent, like, THICK. And it was the most hilarious sounding thing ever. Laughed out loud on occasion just hearing it. Of course... I don't hear it anymore. I'm prolly back to sounding funny myself.

Have a UP sitting two offices down from me.  He wore a tutu into work for halloween last year.  He doesn't talk funny anymore unless he gets drunk and starts reminiscing about the UP.

I was in Texas once and a lady in a Dairy Queen asked me if I wanted some "prettythang cream".  I honestly couldn’t figure why she thought that I would want some cream for my butt and why she would be bold enough to ask.  I stared at her for about 10 seconds then responded with, “What?”   She repeated, “Would you like some prettythang cream?”  Only after another 10 seconds of staring in amazement did I make the connection that I was in Texas and was in a Dairy Queen.
