Using CV's as mobile ack

To some, dweebery is something low, something to be shunned and despised.

To others, it's the highest form of entertainment.

When you're under siege at a base, bravely defending, you usually have at least some protection from friendly AAA. Unless you're facing a CV, then it's the other way around; move above 2k and deadly 88's take you out quite quickly.

Some CV commanders appear to enjoy putting a base under his flak umbrella. frankly, I think it's gamey, dweeby, far from how it was in real life. There's no real counter to it, other than taking a JU88 for a suicide run, destroying the CV. And that takes a good deal of luck.

Something must be done to alleviate this - or rather prevent the dweebs from gaming the game. Shallow water near bases, or costal batteries, would be a nice touch based on reality.

Cannot believe I haven't seen more whines about this - it's more game-screwing than the chog, niki and ostwind in one.

HTC should bite the bullet and fix the stupid flak. I cant see how some sort of frame rate fix caused this awful mistake- and its doing a lot of damage to fun, realism, and just plain common sense in AH.

StSanta, you have been away for some time. Havent you? One of the the last patches was supposed to fix the problem but it is still there. CV groups are able to get too close to coastal airfields and CV ack-ack is simply incredible as far as precision and intensity are concerned. I for one (and my squad) try to stay away from those quake-ish situations, but it is not always easy. Oh yeah, sometimes there are even two CV groups gangbanging and vulching fields, togheter. No, its not C-Hogs/Nikis-High, its CV-High

What Gatt said.  We've been dealing with this for awhile now, but it's still a pain.  Yesterday morning I flew over two Rook TF that were sailing together!  The ack was very amazing, but my jinking kept me alive - that time.

You mean something like this?  (Actually, this was taken right after first release with naval vessels, before any patches.  I thought it was hilarious at the time.)  In this extreme case, I am sure it was more of a texture overlap problem, but on St.'s topic, I agree... coastal water depth should be realistic, and probably will be so eventually.

I hate to say it ... but I agree

Its getting to the point where the CV's are just super ack stars.

Maybe we should just start calling them "Deathstars" and ask for X-Wings.

And why is it that 88 Ack when it hits my Yak, ALWAYS hits the engine? I have been hit many times, and its never anything but the engine.

I sit on the carrier and try to plink AA shells over fields from 16k, well before the cv defense ring kicks in.  Never works tho.  I still can't figure out how to accurately fire HE or AA shells by using the map.

Vermillio, it ALWAYS takes my engine AND my right wing. And puts me on fire.

And look at the range of those things:

The carrier group is *barely visible*.

Dunno if this still works with the hardened carriers now, but if a CV got close to shore you used to be able to shell it with a panzer.

Hey Santa, didn't I tell you to keep that dress on? You're sounding more and more like a rook with your observations!

Pull up the map and click on the spot you wanna shell....the display will show you range and bearing on target....then just match your gun range and bearing to the display and blammo!!!  I was doing this myself at A9 last night with both the 8" and the 5" guns.  They are quite good at destroying ground targets and structures.

I have no problem with CV ack, some stick movement and it wont touch ya, but it does get bad at a field when taking off under ack from a close CV.

Leave ack alone, but Shore Gun Batteries are the best idea yet. This will make the CV commander a bit wary about bring the CV to close to a base.

Ive sunk maby CVs with 3 consecutive sorties in a hvy Typhoon, ack didnt touch me on these sorties. So i suspect that some of you guys are flying to strait a line. Ack dont bother me, people who dont use there head do bother me....

Dog out.......
