Naval Commander in 1.05
« on: December 01, 2000, 01:56:00 PM »
Someone please elaborate on the process by which command of the naval units will be determined in 1.05. Pyro's comment spoke of the person with the highest rank of the country will be commander. But how does that work? Not that I have to worry bout that just wondering. I see someone setting an attack up, getting it under way when another player with higher rank comes online. Does this player gain control immediately?
thx

That's the way it sounds Eagler, from what Pyro has written about who commands the fleets.

If that's the way it works, it won't be long before the situation you described happens, with the higher ranking person wanting to do something else and wrecking an organized plan.

I would hope that the highest ranking person at the time the mission is setup would have command and that if a higher ranking individual wished to join he would just be a regular joe for this mission or give the commander an option to relinquish command if someone higher joines in after the fact.

Well, I bet they will start with HTC designated way points...eventually transitioning to Player-designated.

I love all the speculation. If I were to guess, the current high ranking player would be able to program a certain number of waypoints and then press an execute button.

The fleet would then start to follow that set of waypoints. If the same player wanted to change the waypoints, he could do so at will, unless another, higher ranked player came on-line.

The current high-ranked player would be informed that the fleet was currently executing maneuvers and would be available in x minutes, or when it reached the last programmed waypoint to the previous fleet commander.

I think for that to be effective and fair, the waypoints would have to be limited so that the fleet could complete them all in say, 1 hour's time.

WHOA.. I just thought of what happens f the fleet has to be turned becase of an ambush or something? What would be the rules regarding an emergency over-ride of waypoints?

It will be good to see what HT comes up with. Whatever it is,I am sure it will be good. If there are problems, I am sure there will be modifications. It will all work out in the end.

How about if they set it up so that if a higher ranking player comes online, he is *not* given command immediately, but merely queued... waiting until the current holder of the command leaves? When that person leaves, the highest ranking player at that moment is given command.

"Dear Mama,

I have no idea what happens last few days. It looks like our high command officers changes their minds every 5 minutes. No one can predict where we will move. Right now, it is another officer on the command deck, and while other commanders fall asleep he insist that he has the highest average scores (no idea what it is, but he promissed to show me something he called URL), and due to that he will take command. We are turning again. God save our fleet!"

I am in complete control of my naval. At all times.

Yes, good idea - let everyone decide where the fleet will go to.

Either everyone sets one WP and they are sequentially used, or everyone sets an sequence of WPs and for every WP x there is the avg. range and direction of all players choices for WP x calculated, so everyone can affect the c(o)urse.

Latter would be better IMO
