personally i have had my wing shot up in similar fashion before and had massive surface damge, but the wing stayed intact.

if it was only MG rounds that hit it, it would only put a few holes where the bullets struck.

look at this screenie for serious damage, but still flyable.

i think it is good that HTC have coded 'luck' into the game a bit more than AH1. it seems more realistic than having an exact % of hits and, *wham*  your wing is off!

ever seen how much damage other planes can withstand? or are you just jaded towards spitfires? :p

I agree sir, that is refreshing to see. But if the Spitfire is weak skinned. Then so be it.
BTW GREAT FILM. I think thats what Karnak is mouthin about.
I forgot to say "Great Film!
BTW GREAT FILM.
BTW...Windows Movie Maker is very capable of such a finished product ;)
I have never ever responded or posted that i think Spitfires are porked uber or anything of the sort. The spitfire is a fine AC why do you think it is so loved in the MA. The uber complaints mostly come from players that are constantly getting pummed by em.

I think what happens is the horizontal stabilizer departs the aircraft - which has the same effect on pitch control as the entire tail coming off.  Maybe the modelling was easier if the tail breaks off ( as it does on other airplanes ).  I seem to remember the stabilizer as a weakness of the P-38.

If one boom comes off, the horizontal will not stay.  On a clean break, you lose control, if it stays with the airplane and fouls the rudders - you lose control... in either case, (-% to the chance of hitting the airplane and dying trying to bail out, maybe; maybe +% because it's tumbling...).

For those of you who haven't seen them, these "gun camera films" are based on the style of Luftwaffe training films.  Some of the terms are:

Angriff  =  attack
Anflug  =  approach
Kurvenkampf  =  turn fight
Anfangsentfernung  =  initial distance
Abgang  =  exit (in the theatrical sense)
von hinten  =  from behind
von links oben  =  from left above
in der Verfolgungskurve (should be one word, I think)  =  in tracking turn

I can live with the hit sprites, but the generic explosion has got to be more aerodynamic.

As for the P-38's tail coming off...it would look (be?) more realistic if instead of coming off all at once intact, the tail came off in large pieces; first the right boom, which rips away the horizontal stabilizer, which pulls off part of the left boom.

Sanjini, very well done.  And I loved the music.

Once again, I try to download this, only to have my connection get reset by the server, followed by nothing but DNS errors when trying to download it again.

Does anyone else have this video somewhere more accessable?

A question
« Reply #57 on: September 28, 2004, 04:58:54 PM »
Did the wizard who made those films slow the original AH films down? I agree they look stunning, all the more so for showing the aircraft rolling at rates that look a lot more like original guncams than AH craft.

Or, should the question be, did the original guncam films slow things down?

Cheers,

Scherf

The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

Exactly what mitsu said and small smoke puffs for cannon hits should also be considered than just a hit sprite IMO.

Great film except that the a/c moves rather funny in filmviewer. (sorta mechaincally lookin' or sumthin...)

The films I've seen of WarBirds III are particularly good in this regard - there are puffs of smoke/dust as hits occur on the target plane, and sometimes larger secondary puffs with debris breaking away into the slipstream.
