PC upgrade..vendor question
« on: September 26, 2004, 08:03:46 AM »
I checked the rules and there doesn't seem to be a prohibition about naming specific vendors.  If there is, my apologies.  I'm looking at an AMD system, 939 socket.  Based on comments on the board, looks like Athlon 64 3500 is the best bang for the buck right now since the required MOBO has very easy upgrade capability.

I do not want to build my own and have the resources to have a system made.  Yes, I own a Dell and am pissed off at the lovely RDRam they sold me three years ago.  Not to mention the calls to India for customer support today (which I have not needed...the Dell has worked as advertised from day 1.)

Ok...vendor possibilities include Alienware, Voodoo, ABS computers and, maybe Gamepc.  Anyone have experiences with these guys?  I've seen some negative reports on AW but they offer the best price so far.  Gamepc seems to be the highest $$.

And yes, I'm well aware of cooling, Corsair RAM, etc. thanks to this BB!!!  In fact, I would never have considered the Athlon until I read the comments here.  Now it seems like THE processor for gaming.  (Also excludes Dell which only offers Intel.)

Falcon NW has a great reputation. You can spend $20K on a custom job or $1000 on a pre built.

Ive used MWAVE many times over the years. They are a stable company with good prices and customer service. Some of them are hard to understand over the phone, but they are all very nice and helpful.
