Rook bomber pilots and anyone else who bombs
« on: September 27, 2004, 08:16:19 AM »
I'd like to start a weekly meeting of bomber pilots, who like to fly in tight formations, for 1 hi alt large mission a week. Whether we do it in MA or CT I dont care, but Id love to see a bunch of us get together one night a week, have mission plans, hold a pre-flight briefing, fly out to high altitude, mass drop on a target and rtb for debriefing.

If interested please reply and we can get some folks together for this. My email is fluxputz@hotmail.com if you want to work on this with me.

Bomber Pilots:

An Endangered Species.

I'd like to do this, but I'm a knight.

Have you found something worth bombing yet?

I'd like to organize some missions too but there's not much roll for us these days.

Filth... I think you need to explain to most people that high altitude does not mean 4000 feet. :rofl

You meant "400 feet," of course.

The problem I've always had is holding formation and gunning at the same time.  As soon as enemy fighters appear the formation just seems to lose all cohesion.

As much as it seems like it would be taking skill away from the game, and autoformate function that would leave the non-lead bomber players free to gun and calibrate might be a good thing.

Yeah this could be for anyone of any side that bombs. Seems there arent enough guys on one side who want to do this. So the CT would be a good place to start.

Im talking 20k or so altitude. If we got a good size group we could have different fighter squads do the escort and intercept roles each week. Kind of see who does best at each role.

I think weds. night at 8pm est would be a good time to do this.

As for staying in formation...we could bring gunners along..especially new guys who may want to try something fun, while they are getting the hang of the game. What Ive found tha tworks really well, is having the lead bomber set the course and the rest manually fly near him. This way you can stay within 50 ft of the guy the whole way. Then the lead bombardier sets the bombsight and everyone drops on his command. It does work..and with alot of bombers it would really cover the target. Plus it keeps everyone close all the way from IP to RTB.

I can create mission maps and send them out showing the target etc before weds nights.  If a better night is preferred please say so. If interested shoot me an email at fluxputz@hotmail.com.

PS I do like fighters...but lately bombers have added a whole new part of the game to me..and it is challenging.

ironically enough, the past few times I've played this past week - fighting rooks, mostly, every buff formation i encountered was down low.

I think Pogo has your answer, DoK....

and here's Pogo's take on the Rook's getting "ganged" by bishnits...

Yeah ... I know, Shane. Everyone hoovers around in B17's and Lanc's now.

As for relative odds and gang-ups, I trust what I see on the map more than I trust incomplete stats.

And that's kind of why I bailed from the MA. I can't fix it and it stopped being fun. I suppose if I still had my old furballin' skillz it wouldn't bother me as much - but I don't, so it does.

Good grief.  That second cartoon looks almost unbelievably appropriate.  Shopped?

DoK-- forget the stats.  It's the chance placement of teams on this map.  That's all.

FWIW I still haven't figured out how to be effective with the new fangled bomb site either. Haven't tried all that often but it may be just beyond my attention span limits these days.

There was a really good tuturial posted in the Help topic, but the pictures were missing because (I guess) of forum restrictions on attachments. If anyone can reconstitute this thing with pictures and all I can convert it to a PDF or standalone web page and host it.
