LOL.. every time I find a P38, I know I'm in for a heluva fight.

Why?? Because either the guy is VERY good <S! Jettdog!> or very determined... or both. The only worse thing to find above me is a 109G10... Hawgs I can usually shake; N1k's I can leave in the dust and 190's need only be dodged till they run outta E.. P38's and 109G10's at hight alts are wicked Vert turners; and can get the nose on yah off the top real fediddlein quick.

<S!> you Twin Tailed Devil Drivers!

Hey.. a question for you guys.. how do you load 'em for Air to air combat? What fuel/tankage combo do you like?? How do yah load 'em for JABO ops?? Just askin for my mission Planner sheet.

I will only offer this...you are wasting time if you climb at the default speed in the 38, empty, ordinance, drop tanks, or otherwise

Bah, the P-38 outclimbs and outturns the 190A8.

And outguns it too, with 1*hisp and 4* .50's, all in the nose.

It probably outrolls it at high speeds too. And is faster.

BAH.

Dweeb plane  .

Dive is very close too, but I believe A-8 is faster on the deck.

Better than an A8 Santa?? I forsee an uptrend in P38 numbers. I suggest buying Lockheed stock.

Yaks?   You gotta be joking!

I flew between 6-8 hours on Friday and Saturday, and I saw one single Yak sortie other than myself.

hiya Citabria:

well you are the last one to talk about the P38 been out flown. I have fought you and gotten my butt kicked every time. I dont know anybody that can fly the P38 as good or better then you Citabria, I do beleive you are the best P38 pilot in this game.

Generally I think this AH P-38 superior to slow Fw 190A-8.
When 1.05 comes, it will also fix that wide dispersion from the center, which will make up for P-38's nose mounted .50 calibers.

It turns better, it climbs better and should be faster too.
Although, I don't like P-38s control response as much as 190A-8s.
Either the game or my stick, but in P-38 I can't aim a plane because nose keeps being bouncy.
P-38s most definitive disadvantage compared to 190a8, is its lack of visibility from the cockpit.
Rolling at slow speed in P-38 is slow and without one aileron, its almost non existant (I were once landing with one aileron missing - one aileron gave almost no control input at all when slow.. had to bank with the rudder)

P-38 is big nice target to hit, but it also has 2 vertical stabs/rudders to lose and two engines. (though, P-38 seems to get hit in the engines like those would be bullet magnets)
but P38 is hard to stop, in landing this comes difficult, but that tells it has somewhat good E-retention.
(well.. go compare to typhoon.. it drops like a rock without engine, no matter if RPMs are at minimum or not)

Something also stinks with acceleration of P-38, but I can say that same of Fw190's as well.
It is slow acceleration, specially when going for speeds above 200mph.

So.. if we think that P-38 is lousy and its pilots should be respected alot more than others, we shouldn't forget about Fw 190a-8 pilots or those that flies 109F-4 or C.202 (slooow and poorly armed)

P-38 probably is rare just because of its control response, lack of visilibity from cockpit and average armament.
It does not have that fearsome weapons that many hopes for (not many flies yaks either, even though its GREAT in AH.. just because of lacking hit power)
1.05 probably fixes alot problems with .50 calibers, when fire is more accurate. (..they actually fixed something that I squeaked about  )

Unless eyes betray me, Fishu wrote a non-derogatory analysis on a US plane. (with the LW twist however)

Egad!

- Jig

Of course one realises that the sense of "non-derogatory" is putting the plane down like it's a piece of junk so as not to be the so called "dweeb" plane, but hey thats AH for ya.

<S>Citabria. I dont know what makes us go on with this. Must be the beauty and elegance of flying this plane. Also we are stone headed bastards
When I fly any other plane, I know I can do better, but I dont have nearly as much fun as flying a P-38. I can have 4 or 5 kill sorties with Chog. I can only have 2 or 3 kills sorties with P-38 at most. But P-38 is the fun plane to fly. I love it.

Fishu - very well said. I cant disagree on anything you are saying, wich is sometimes rare
How are you doing pal? ICQ me when you can.

So for now <S> to all P-38 pilots. Citabria, Central, Tac, all I forgot <S>
