Dan, your comment about the 87sqn Mossies got me searching.

Caption is PRU Mosquitos of 87 Sdn including A-52.

Rear one appears to be FB40/PR40 (Aussie FB VI) still with guns. Guess this would be overall PRU blue?

Checked for serial number -  A52-1 was assigned to RAAF, same plane? Any guess on the serial color?

Look closely at A52-1, just above the tire of foreground aircraft. Looks like a ventral camera window which would confirm it is one of the 6 converted FB40s.
If so you have any idea the locations of the cameras, I could add the windows/hatches.

Tried a test overall PRU blue Mossie, looks kinda cute, lol.

Sorry Kev, I completely missed your last post on this thread.  No idea on the camera ports.  Went through all my stuff and can't find a thing.  I'm assuming the bomb bay would have been the spot for all the camera gear though so you could somewhat fake it I would think.

I like the PRU blue Mossie.  The last 1/48th Scale Mossie I built was an Aussie one with the PRU Blue.  That was a long time ago now but it's still on the shelf :)

The usual location for the cameras was in the hatch, and front of the bomb bays.  As your pics are of the FB variant I can only assume they'd only be in the bomb bay.

The two 'port holes' on the bomb bays I guess are for the cameras?

You can see the holes in the bomb bay doors better below (port side)

Dont know if this helps guys

A52-1, -3, -5, -11 completed as FB40's/FB VI

A52 -2, -4, -6,-7, -9 completed as PR40's

A52 -8, -10 completed as Mk 43's

My book has only a reference to the PR 16 of 87 PR Flight, 1944 and it states "RAAF azure blue overall, black serial"

In the marks and model discription states:

PR40: Australian unarmed PR version of FB40.

The Book is "Beaufort, Beaufighter and Mosquito in Australian Service"

Hope it is of some benefit

Thanks guys.
FTJR - Does it tell you which 6 were converted from FB40 to PR40s?
In the pic I posted A52-1 definately still has its guns, the caption was something like "xxxSqn PRU Mosquitos".

Kev, no only what I stated above.

Also refering to you statement about above -1 wheel in the photo, the only thing I can see is the open crew access door, yes it does have guns unlike the mossie in the foreground which appears to me to have its cannons capped.

Sorry I cant be of more help
