Going on a ride this weekend..
« on: October 06, 2004, 01:32:09 AM »

I'm taking this from Phoenix up to the White mountains this weekend on a 2-day trip. Gonna go with my boss, who has a really nice full dresser Yamaha with satelite radio ( I installed it) and all nice and civilized.

We are going to do some fishing and may even camp. For sure we are gonna fish and drink beer :)

My problem is that I will be on my bike for about 4 or 5 hours each day. My bike is as you see it.....no nothing.  I'm gonna be one tired, beat up SOB....no windshield or fairing.

hey Steve, you still up I see.

I hope it's not going to be that cold. Next weekend we can play Risk.

Maybe I can pull off a victory at Risk and make up for my arse kicking in Diplomacy :)

Im guessing you need a backpack to get all your crap with you? Or do you have another solution?

Your kidding right? Cripes don't be so soft. My sister use to ride a 250 with no fairing on a regular 500 km trip and through every season. Or try adventure riding on a trail bike (Not some car like Paris Dakar BMW) across the australian outback for 3 months with no fairing for 6 to 12 hours a day and most of that time spent standing up. Then you can complain about being a tired beaten up SOB.

Backpacks are a bad idea, they put the weight too high and too far back. If you have a pillion seat you can reverse them to bring the weight forward.

Panniers and Tankbags are better for weight and balance, allowing you to keep the weight lower down.

Of course some trips trying to carry extra gas is the problem especially when touring trails.

Are those tankbags similar to those you use on horses?

No, you're thinking about saddlebags (which are available for motorcycles too). Tankbag is fastened on top of the fuel tank:

Enjoy Nuke!  We are also heading out Thursday morning for the last fishing trip of the year, 4 days of bass, walleye, and trout.  Hopefully the next picture you see here is a 12 lb. walleye or 8 lb. Large mouth!
