I've flown an SNJ and an O-2 (aka cessna skymaster).  SNJ cockpit was roomy, and I am a BIG boy.  O-2 was roomy, but uncomfortable compared to the civilian version.

I've had the opportunity to fly in a TBM that was very nicely restored by the Twin Falls Warbirds.I found it to very roomy in the radioman, gunner positions. It was an awesome experince for me.
Been on the B17 Sentimental Journey, and was surprised at the conditions the crew had to put up with. That poor ball turret gunner!
I have flown on numerous C130's,Slicks,and on one occaision, was in Huey that had to put down in the South China Sea.The good lord was with me on that one.I have also seen the insides of F4 Phantom,A4 Skyhawk,F8 Crusader, and the old Skyraider prop job.The plane captains woudn't let this ol Jarhead sit in the cockpits though.

Do I look worried? Heck no! I preflighted that Phantom myself!

6 feet, 205lbs.

Sat in:

HA-1112 M1L ( Bf-109G-2 ).  Just fit, no possible way to fly.  Rudder pedals way too short, canopy just closed, shoulders jammed in. Worse visibility than the P-51 ( and that is saying something ).

Yak-3, not so cramped, but shoulders against canopy rails, canopy very tight.  Might be possible to fly, but not for long.

P-51D. Room for me, comfortable, well laid out. Pedals adjust, would be flyable.  Room under the canopy, very well laid out.

P-51C. Same size, much different instrument layout.  As I remember, some of the controls are in different locations.

B-26C.  Flyable, about as much room as the P-51, as I remember ( the aircraft was lost in an accident in '95 )

C-47.  Cramped for such a large airplane. Short pedals for me. Yoke hit legs. Would be a challenge to fly.

Mig-29.  Very narrow. Might be just possible to fly.

An-225. Freaking huge AC. 1.5 times the size of the C-5. Flight deck 2 stories off the ground.  Lots of room...

F4U.  It's a LONG WAY to the ground. Cockpit very large. Flyable for me. Visibility problematic.

B-24. Room to fly.  Even the WWII bombers are cramped to keep stuff within reach.

B-29. Good visibility but more cramped than it looks like.

C-46. A little cramped for me. You sit very high, Visibility really good. Flyable.

B-1. Crammed in, feels very much like a fighter.

Flown in:

P-51D. Smooth as silk, noisier than you can imagine, instant steam-bath in summer.

C-46. Roomy, noisy ( you'd expect that ). Stable, windy.

Kate. Modified T-6, probably very like it.  Good visibility, noisy, windy.

C-47. Stable, noisy, sits at steep angle...

B-25. Noisy, stiff, vibrates a lot.

Flown:

B-17. Slow control response, heavy pressure, very stable. You feel the engines but hear the wind. Surprisingly poor visiblity, less rom than you'd expect, but not uncomfortable.

Some of you make me very jealous... seen all of these planes during airshows or when in museums though.

Anyway, cannot remember much about the Catalina... I must have been about 9 years old, it was on display on the grounds of a swimming pool I believe, completely stripped inside.
