I was thinking of an Audi A3 for my next car. For the type of driving I do, and in deference to European fuel prices, I would get the 2.0 litre diesel version with 4WD. That DSG electronic transmission sounds interesting - anyone tried that?
But I was talking to a friend about this, and he had tried the A3 and didn't like the way it handled. He accused it of "threepennybitting" through corners, the threepenny bit being an English 12-sided coin until 1971 - I think you get his drift. I realise such things as handling/cornering are of less importance in the US, but on our roads H/C is essential. As driving goes, we're very much a SpitV/T&B country.

The Turbo Audi's are badly over-rated, but the V-8 delivers enough performance to live up to its billing. I think they run low to mid 14's. I don't really like the look...or the size (lack of)...or the pricetag of the Audi, but their performance is good.
"run low 14's"? What's that then? I'm guessing, but I think you might be referring to the elapsed time at which a distance of ¼ mile is passed, or do you mean 14 miles per gallon ??? I'm used to seeing acceleration quoted as 0-100km/h (62mph).
V8s, hotrods, long distances to cover... what are you guys going to do when the oil runs out?
