I downloaded both codec packs that Oct mentioned, plus upgraded my media player to "Series 9" since I have Win2000.  Still can't view it... am I out of luck?

Have you tried playing it through the Media Player Classic thingy that comes with the codec pack?

I get that sometimes when trying to play RealMedia files (.rm, .ram).

I dunno... video driver?  Those codecs should be all you need... It didnt ask you to reboot after installation did it?

Hitech, I really like what you've done here. The water looks wonderful!

One suggestion I'd make, as was mentioned earlier: It's too blue.

So is the sky. So is the land. AH2 has had a problem with most things being over saturated big time (when compared to AH1). Would it be possible to desaturate things a bit? Just a suggestion.

Somthing I noticed

Near the end of the film, the sun's reflection on the water looks a bit like airbrush on microsoft paint...

It should look a bit more like this...

In the CENTER of the light's reflection on the water the color is completely white and not a bunch of seperated dots...

Other than that... nice job!

:aok

If the file is that big to show us something cool, is this a hint of things to come concerning memory usage and frame rate once its implemented.

I went from 512 meg to a Gig on memory and seems like all that happened is the machine now takes 632 megs of Memory instead of the 470 it took when I ran with 512.

If this cool stuff  hits the frame rate I may just find something else to play. You are pricing the game out of reach of some folks not with the monthly subscriptions but with having to buy more, more, more to try and get a decent Frame Rate.

We should not have to keep cutting edge computers or update what we have everytime a change is made to AH2, you should make sure what you design is as effecient as you can get it.

I heard an interesting quote one time "Better is the enemy of Good" maybe that would apply here.

Have you tried the application FSAutoStart, you can use it to cut down on all the MS crap that runs in the background before you fire up your favourite sim. Usually free's up about 100mb ram for me and like you I have a gig.

I have similar spec comp to yours except running a 9600XT, I don't think you should need to upgrade just to run AH2 and what ever water effects it may come out with. If you do there's something wrong way beyond the hardware.

Windows 2D multimedia file format and HTC specialized 3D app: does that sound like different and independent things to you, moto61?

moto.
I dont think the file size of the video is indicitive of the fr tax such an effect will have on our PCs.
The effect is in the form of tiles. The film is a whole streaming file same as when we record a 20 min film in AH2 gun cam format. BIG to d/l ....but in the game is one tile at a time . Something like that any ways. :)
PS i might as well say it.....I dont mean it to be rude or insensitive but I think the "Cool Stuff" needs MUCH work. The shimmer effect is like an old fashioned SNOW effect we used to get on our televisions when i was a kid.
The waves i think we are seeing....are like fog on the water.
But kudos for HTC trying to improve the water.
