Wish Planes List for Carrier-Vehicle
« on: December 04, 2000, 09:30:00 PM »
Ver.1.05 coming soon? Available to launch from CV? It's very good. I want a lot of carrier-vehicle planes.

This is my wish list for CV planes.
    • Aichi M6A1 "Seiran"[/b]
Japanese Special Carrier Attacker for Submarine CV! This is loaded I400 Submarine and have dropable twin floats. Secret-ness! Fast! They launched early August 1945. But their mission was not completed by the end of the war.
      • Kugisho D4Y2 "Suisei"[/b]
Japanese Carrier Dive Bomber. The prototype D4Y1-C launched to Battle of the Midway as scouts. D4Y2 rolled out October 1944. Fast! Some variations have 20mm cannons on rear seat as shrage musik.
        • Fairey Swordfish[/b]
British Carrier Atacker. It's a Bi-plane and very slow. But They did very good job on Mediterranean Sea.
          • Messerschmit Bf109T[/b]
German Carrier Fighter. But no carrier for German yet.
            • Grumman TBF "Avenger"[/b]
              US Carrier Atacker.
              • Douglass SBD "Dauntless"[/b]
                US Carrier Bomber.
                • Grumman F6F "Hellcat"[/b]
                  US Carrier Fighter. Coming soon?

1.05 is adding only two carrier planes.  The Hellcat and the TBF.  We already have Corsairs and Zeros.

No dive bombers added yet.  I guess with the heavy bombload of the Corsair it would be redundant.

Well here are my choices.  Please note that my wish list is based on a planeset that would allow us to recreate historical scenarios rather than having some of these lesser known specialty planes:

    - Douglass SBD-3 "Dauntless" dive bomber
    - Aichi D3A1 "Val" dive bomber
    - Nakajima B5N-2 "Kate" torpedo bomber
    - Grumman F4F-4 "Wildcat" fighter

As you can see I'd love to see more of the Pac planes.  With those above and the ones we have now, you could have a nice Coral Sea scenario.  Add the G4M and you now have Guadalcanal.  Add the P-39 and P-40 and you have a good planeset for early war China.

    I know, I know....patience

I've always wondered this but if the F4U could carry 2 1K bombs and from the technical data I've read the SBD-5 could only carry 1K, why was the SBD even used at all?  Why werent bomb laden F4s used in some of the carrier battles?  Too heavy to launch from a carrier?

I bet we could expect a new plane every 2 to 3 weeks *once they get all the bugs ironed out after V1.05 release*...our A/C data base could fill up quite nicely.

I think I'd like to see them focus on Japanese/US/British A/C used in the PTO to begin with, maybe even get into some land based bombers used during the PTO,  such as the Betty, B25, etc.  After a few A/C, then move back to ETO A/C, then back again, etc.  This would keep everyone happy.

    Several reasons.

Saftey.  Real lives are at stake.  The Corsair is somewhat dangerous to LAND on carriers.  They only used them on carriers because of the Kamikaze threat.  If there were no Kamikazes, I doubt the Corsair would have been cleared for use on carriers at all.

Range.  The Dauntless loaded down can go farther than the loaded Corsair.  Of all the US Navy aircraft based on carriers, the Dauntless has the longest range without drop tanks.  They even kept some of them after Helldivers were introduced, not just because the Helldiver was a mediocer replacement, but also the un-loaded Dauntless is still very usefull as a search aircraft.

Dive performance.  The Dauntless can dive from a higher (safer) altitude than a Corsair.  It has alot better dive flaps and such, compared to the small gear door airbrakes of the Corsair.

However, the fighters on carriers were being used as strike aircraft too.

In fact I beleave the standard aircraft at the beginning of the war was a balanced 1/3 fighter, torpedo bomber, and dive bomber.  In the end it was 1/2 fighter, 1/4 dive bomber, 1/4 torpedo bomber.  The Kamikaze theat was just too great.  More fighters were needed, including the new fast climbing F4U-4s.

    Hans.
