Weekend bike trip.
« on: October 10, 2004, 10:57:36 PM »
Some pics from my weekend ride.

These two are from  Alpine Arizona.

Gun camera footage.

Our bikes....87 miles south of Alpine and on our way back to Phoenix

Some BIG arse trucks in Morenci Arizona working the cooper, gold and silver mine operted by Phelps Doge. The town of Morenci is completely owned by Phelps Dodge. The mine is HUGE! It spans miles across and thousands of feet deep. They work it 24 hours a day, seven days a week Im told.

This pic does not do the size justice, but you can see a small portion of the mine here. Some of the views remind me of the grand canyon..

Anyway, was a great ride. I only wish that I had taken some desert pics for you . I later thought....wtf? Most people are probably gonna want desert pics coming from a bike ride in Arizona.

Nuke, really like your bike but I'm not a big fan of the Touring bike that your friend rides.  I realise it is more practical than yours for riding long distances etc. but yours looks much cooler.

Man, you ever been up Mt. Lemmon? It's right near Tucson and it's pretty cool.

Curval, thanks :) My bike might get a few more looks than his, but on this trip I kinda wish I had his.

He's protected from a lot of wind and his range is a lot longer. I have to fill up about every 120 miles.

We left the desert ( around 95 degrees) and 40 minutes later it was starting to get very cool. We were above 8000 feet and in the tall pines for a good long time.

Then coming back we got some rain. All said was about a 750 mile trip.

I wish I had taken a lot more pics. We went through some areas that looked like they belonged in Arizona Highways magazine.

Those look like R-125 or R-150 Euclids.

I remember Atlanta Georgia had some fantastic roads. Spent a few hours in my rental car there just having fun on the freeway ramps near the airport. Traffic there is worse than in LA though.

:D

I spend usually one or two days a week hiking in the Catalinas and up on Mt. Lemmon. This weekend I am hiking Mt. Wrightson and then the following heading up Humphreys. I cant wait to be up at 12 and a half thousand feet.
