hard drive cache
« on: October 12, 2004, 02:39:56 AM »
Hello all, ive come across a wd 40gig 8 meg cache hard drive . I have a wd 40 gig 2mb cache drive , now i am wondering if you all think it would be worth the time and effort to swap these two drives for AH2 performance. I've read alot of conflicting reports on the net , im just wondering if anyone has made a switch like this , and did you notice any difference . Now i really dont do alot of file transfers or anything like that .   This is only for gaming .. thanks

I would think that as long as you have enough memory that you arn't paging while playing AH then the extra cache on the hard drive wouldn't provide any extra game time performance. The game might load faster when you bring it up for the first time...

However I don't know a whole lot about these new larger cached hard drives so if anyone else has advice I would defer to it.

I noticed "real world" increase in responsiveness way back when I first switched from 2 meg to 8 meg drives.  YMMV applies however.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.
