If you look at prophecy in the bible you will find the pattern used in them is the same as Washingtons.
Such as ...look and learn.....son of the Republic....dipping of water from ocean the use of europe, asia and africa.....and the fortelling of 1 or 2 events that happened after a vision to althinacate its position ...such as the civil war.
The angel and the trumpet always sound.
Dont know seems to follow a pattern.
So you are saying that God inspired the author of the story, therefore it must be true that Washington said it?
Unlike Jesus, George Washington wrote his own memoirs...while he was still alive, btw. And I think that he would probably have mentioned somewhere in all his writings this little story of being visited by a vision from an angel.
Plus, the style is nothing the way that Washington wrote. Below is and actual excerpt from his later days as President:
The period for a new election of a citizen to administer the executive government of the United States being not far distant, and the time actually arrived when your thoughts must be employed in designating the person who is to be clothed with that important trust, it appears to me proper, especially as it may conduce to a more distinct expression of the public voice, that I should now apprise you of the resolution I have formed, to decline being considered among the number of those out of whom a choice is to be made.
