Spit Vs Spit....

It's ugly Grun.

Pointy cone-nose, cockpit too far back from the nose, large flappy wings like an albatross, and a hideously long fuselage. Looks like some boney twiggy fashion model.

 Now, this is 'beautiful'.

Well rounded, but still slick nose. Perfect distance from the cockpit and the nose. Perfectly sized wings like an eagle, and lean but not thin fuselage.

X4492 is not a Spitfire V.  It's PRVII that was flown in Canada postwar.  It in fact is a modified Spit I with the larger oil tank under the nose which lead to the cowl having to be deepened.

I'd agree that it isn't a very good looking Spit.

The Spit Vb is however in many ways the best looking of all the Spits and I'm an absolute Spit XII fanatic.

You spit folks.
I have on my HD a high resolution pic of a Spit V that I took at Duxford in the year 2000.
It's nicer still than the pic above.
Post yer emails, and I'll mail it to you, free to distribute as much as you want.
Or email me with "Spitfire pic" in the subject line at burns@isholf.is and I'll reply ;)
Regards
Angus
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)
