Large maps vs Small maps
« on: October 16, 2004, 06:08:26 PM »
I would like to offer this suggestion as a way to allow all players to enjoy AH2.Have  a big map arena, and a small map arena. The fellas that are having fps isssues with certain maps, would be able to enjoy themself by having playable frame rates, and the gents that have managed to conquer the fps issue, could have the large maps. This would also help with the higher number of flyers when that occurs. If HTC can come up with  a way to get the large maps playable, then my idea isn't needed. If the fps issue isn't resolved,I'm afraid that more of the vets will call it quits.IMHO there are far too many other issues to deal with, and still have to fight getting a good frame rate.So thats my take on the situation.I don't mean this in a negative way,and I would welcome any alternative ideas to help out the current whine-a-thon.My system is listed below.I'm a lil better than average tweaker, and I'm getting single digit fps in any kind of active situation at all.
IronDog

Intel 2.4
Asus 533B MB
1024 mgs Kingston DDR ram
Nvidia Geforce 5900 xt
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound
I run in 1280X1024 256 textures all video settings set to performance
the ironic thing is,I run in F3 to try and help fps,and the background reminds me of Air Warrior. We've came a long way baby!

You are running too high a resolution, fall back to default.  Just because higher resolution options exists does not mean by any means (a) that you should use it or (b) that you even can.   For whatever reason your system can't handle 1280x1024, the solution is not to knock the game, the fix is to undo your fiddling and fall back to the default.

Been there done that!AH2 runs best in the 1280-1024 res.I can't answer why,but lower res doesn't fix nothing.Eye candy means nothing to me.Just want a playable frame rate.I'm not alone in my suffering as many people having same prob.I'm not knocking the game,I like AH2,but just wish the fps issue could be helped.

What totally sucks is we are stuck for multiple weeks on the POS maps and the good maps like OZ and Fester are up for a week or less and then not seen for months.  How many weeks did we have to stomach potato peeling Trinity, blah.  I'm starting to think HTC has a grudge against the two best maps in their line up.  BOoooooooo.

Main reason I only have 7 hours this month and we are past the halfway point.  Please do something HTC. Please.......

There are at least two things that should be common to all maps.

1)  There needs to be an area of fields that are in close range of each other as well as an equal area of fileds that are spaced a sector or so apart.  Thus the guys that cry about close fields can go fly in the area where the fileds are farther apart.  And the guys that cry about fields being to far apart can fly in the area where the fields are close.

2)  Any water maps need more carriers.  As long as carriers can be sunk so easily we need to have more of them.

Mars...

As the guy responsible for "potato peeling Trinity", I can say it was up for about a "potato peeling" week the last time. I can also say that the reason it is taking so long for Fester's maps to appear is that he did so many "non-standard" things with his map. All of that stuff HAS to be removed before the maps can be converted for use in AH2. Heck, Fester MA was up not long ago, it was causing mass dumps and had to be pulled until they can figure out what the problem is.

Stone him!!!!  :D

Maybe I am confusing my maps, the one with tank town.  That thing was up forever, definately longer than a week.

LOL, that map would be great if you were to move some of the fields closer.  The west and south coutries have great fights in the middle, but once that area is taken things get rough.  And if your the country on the west flight times are even worse.

Oh well for the effort.

Also with festers map, If I remember rigth that was the first map up during the Beta testing.

personaly i think all maps are good except trinity..
but i think that the large maps should only have 2 teams and not three..where as the smaller maps work ok with three.

Thanks for the time you have put in your map (even if I'm not really fond of it).

Do you plan an evolution of Trinity ?
Don't ask me how  I just want to know if there is something planed :)

What's so bad about Trinity?  I happen to think its fine, plenty of bases to fight the bad guys with and if you lose a few, no big deal.  Much better then getting stuck on the Southern section of the Mindano map!!!

Yes...as soon as I get off my lazy duff and learn to operate the new terrain editor. The "plan" is to fix a couple of things that lead to it being easier to go after the southern country.

Isn't the southern country already the one that typically gets reset?
