John Stewart's Daily Show Numbers Fall

1. That Drudge story is a little misleading. Daily Show numbers were huge for the Conventions.
2. The quotes from the CNN appearance are not complete or even in order. Watch the tape if you can.
3. Stewart bagged on both sides on Crossfire. He basically asked them to be more responsible journalists. His case in point was the "Spin Zone" that all the networks and cable shows jump to after the debates. Why on Earth would a news program want to hear admitted lies... the Spin Zone is hackery and pandering to the interests of one side or the other. We should all be behind Stewart on this issue.
4. He isn't a Journalist... Calling him biased in his reporting is like giving George Burns bad reviews for his singing. Silly crap.

Neither are Carlson or Begala.  Hell, Begala's even on the Democratic party payroll.  What's wrong with spin doctors having their own show?  So long as it's identified as spin and opinion it can't be confused with bad journalism, aka CBS.

So why was Carlson asking him to be less biased? You realize you made no point?

Actually I made that exact point in the other thread about Stewart's CNN appearance.  My point here, which apparently went over your head, is that Carlson and Begala don't pretend to be politically unbiased, so why is Stewart picking on them, of all people?

I don't recall him "bagging" on the left at all. Maybe you could point it out?

Well I'm one of the people who quit watching his show because of all the Bush bashing.

Some is OK but he goes to far anymore.
I have been reborn a new man!

Notice I never said a better man.

part of the transcript:

STEWART: Here's just what I wanted to tell you guys.

CARLSON: Yes.

STEWART: Stop.

(LAUGHTER)

STEWART: Stop, stop, stop, stop hurting America.

BEGALA: OK. Now

(CROSSTALK)

STEWART: And come work for us, because we, as the people...

CARLSON: How do you pay?

STEWART: The people -- not well.

(LAUGHTER)

BEGALA: Better than CNN, I'm sure.

STEWART: But you can sleep at night.

(LAUGHTER)

STEWART: See, the thing is, we need your help. Right now, you're helping the politicians and the corporations. And we're left out there to mow our lawns.

BEGALA: By beating up on them? You just said we're too rough on them when they make mistakes.

STEWART: No, no, no, you're not too rough on them. You're part of their strategies. You are partisan, what do you call it, hacks.

there you go.

So he pretends to be a nonpartisan basher? Have to admit I don't watch his show but from what I've heard about him he is far from being apolitical.

I did watch the video and I think he is being a hypocrite in telling the crossfire guys they are bad for America.

He does the show he is handed to him.

He has writers to work all of the show together.

I watch his show, he goes after both Bush and Kerry - but since I'm in the "both of them are bellybutton hats" group, I notice it.

Bush slightly more because, well, Bush *IS* the president right now. Not to mention, Bush provides better material.

Kerry's limited material, let's be honest with ourselves - he says the same thing over and over, can only be joked on so much.

Either way, the show itself is more centrist than any real news show/network.

As far as that debate, it's FAR from a meltdown.

Drudge is quite the sensationalist.  I wonder whatever happened to those amazing revelations of adultery that were going to come out shortly after the Democratic convention.  Remember those?  The ones that, apparently, Wesley Clark himself confided were going to devastate Kerry's candidacy?

Hm.

Once again, when did Crossfire ever pretend to be a news show?
