Pretty sure it's too late to register.

Unless you register democratically, in 4 different districts and under 5 different names.

Here our absentee ballot is pretty rectricted compared to your.

In the linked article a part jumped on my eyes

Republicans have just mailed out absentee ballot requests to likely Bush voters and are following up with phone calls.

note that I don't care if it's the rep of the dem that do that.
It's just strange as here our vote are supposed to be individual/personnal not influenced and secret how the party now their vote ?

Plus ,but it's personnal I think goind to the polls is making a sort  "Eucharist" for democratie.

It's not just absentee voting that is early. According to that article early voting is now allowed in 31 states.

"This year, 31 states with 54% of the total U.S. population offer voters a chance to cast ballots before Election Day, either in person or by absentee ballot that can be requested for no special reason."

I think it's great, shorter lines and more time to correct problems.

Hey Iron,
This week I sent my absentee ballot to Dallas County from Boston.  What do you think the odds are that my vote is counted since absentee ballots aren't counted unless they could sway the state's electoral decision?

ie...  what are the odds on Texas going Kerry?
ie...  feels like my vote didn't count

I can understand how ya feel and it's not likely to be a close race in Texas. I think Kerry stands about as much chance of taking Texas as Bush does of winning Massachusetts.

I voted absentee:

One small vote for George W. Bush, One Giant Leap for Mankind, whether they like it or not! :rofl

Dont worry though, my vote doesnt count.  I live in a blue state...that is, unless the popular vote really counts for anything,  NOT!

I think it's way too early to start voting. I mean really, the season isn't even half-over yet.

Yeager, your vote doesn't count, not because your state will go to Kerry, but because the states don't pay the money to actually count absentee ballots unless there's a chance those ballots could sway the vote within the state.  Your vote, like mine, will be opened and filed away, but not counted unless needed.  Thus yours will not make the official count in the general election.

One thing people forget is that Al Gore won the popular vote in the official count, which was prior to the counting of the absentee ballots.  Four years ago, absentee ballots were only counted in two states: Florida, and I think New Mexico.  Considering that absentee ballots generally go 75% conservative, there were more than enough cast to give Bush the national popular vote.
